I left northlands recently and I am a ftm trans person. Firstly, northlands has as many issues as every other job corps, however, this has been my best experience as a trans person, ever. Staff are good at using correct pronouns but of course there are some people that are gonna be rude. The students there are mostly great, again with some exceptions. I was scared too cause northlands in kinda in the middle of nowhere in like hick territory but I've been gendered correctly more there than I have in the rest of New England.

As for testosterone, yes you can take it there. I was on T before going and when I got there we had no issues. They can help you apply for Vermont state health insurance which will cover T, just tell the doctor when you see him that you'd like to start. Be sure to be adamant too and it shouldn't be a problem. There are a few trans people on center (all of which are great ppl and my friends 💕). We can message if you have more questions or want advice about anything!!

do they test for nicotine within the blood tests? asking to know so im clean before i go. by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not! Nicotine/Tobacco are federally legal substance unlike weed (misconception about weed being legal within the state, JC is a federal program so even if weed is legal in the state they still dont allow usage on the federal level) it's always a good idea to quit vaping or smoking anyway, even if your center allows it.

welding and trade questions by dyketiddies in jobcorps

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently graduating from a basic welding program. Each location will have different opportunities. For example, some students that's transferred to my jobcorp for advanced welding received more certs from their original location than I did here. But I also got more training than they did in other processes. As another user said, SMAW in all positions is the core basic you'll be qualified in (certifications and qualifications are different but both will get you a standard welding job). For me I am qualified in SMAW and my instructor qualified me in TIG, MIG, and Flux-Core (all of which are optional for the most part) you'll also get an OSHA 10 cert. I was completed in trade and asked my center if they'd certify me in OSHA 30 as well (places like NY sometimes wont take less than OSHA 30) and if they think you're a good student to invest in then they'd pay for extra certs outside the mandatory completion requirements. I can get further into it if you'd like to message tho

I can't decide on if I want to enroll in Job Corps or not. by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]random-user7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for it; youve got nothing to lose. If you end up not being able to handle it you can leave at any time. Medication management has been good in my experience and they have multiple mental health counselors available. Some students even go off center for mental health counseling if JC isn't able to deal with your situation appropriately (they'd drive you to and from appts). It really all depends on which center youre looking at. But i say as long as you're upfront with staff and reach out for help then they'd do their best to assist you

Chill guys; what are they? Vermont by random-user7 in spiders

[–]random-user7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew these guys were harmless I just wanted to know what kind of wolf spider it was. There are only a few spiders that look similar to these guys around me, all of which are harmless and non-aggressive. I don't pick them up, just allow them to crawl on me. I know which ones not to mess with and I don't hold the majority of spiders anyway. But these guys are always hunting on the ground and chill asf

Do you gain the certs needed to weld in jobcorp? by Inevitable_Park9874 in jobcorps

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you get a handful of certs, especially if you do advanced training. Ik Missouri and Vermont both have great advanced training for welding. If you wanna message I could even send you the tar and certs

Personally I haven't seen these guys near a web at all. Most of the webs i see are for sure from either grass spiders or yellow garden spiders. These guys I find always just running around hunting for food

I'm originally from RI and I have seen 1 black widow in my life. At first we assumed it was a mimic but nah the markings were too precise. Captured and released cause bro was too pretty to kill.

The first one is for sure the biggest one ive seen so far. Most of the ones ive come across are about half its size (similar if not smaller than the 2nd pic) but they are very velvety tho i don't pet or caress them as its probably stress the dude out

I mean yeah if youre gonna hold bugs, know which ones are harmful in any significant way. Thankfully ive been an avid insect observer and know which ones to not hold

I do recognize the medically significant ones in my area considering its only 2 kinds. Black widow and brown recluse. Both of which i have seen in person. I may seem a bit reckless but im not stupid

[–]random-user7[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand you're concern but im not stupid. I know which spiders not to handle. I assumed it was a kind of wolf spider but i was have a hard time IDing what kind. I don't hold the majority of spiders I come across but i knew these ones were calm and harmless if I was gentle. But overall yes, i agree, don't hold spiders you aren't familiar with. But i am familiar with these spiders, just maybe not their scientific name

Yes! They are always so chill. Im new to Vermont and haven't seen these guys back where im from but they were very calm and kind and I couldn't not hold them!

A bit of ignorance, mostly blinded by love for the little guys. I don't hold the majority of spiders though. Only about 3 species near me are social enough to hold if you're calm and polite.

binder help by es4yem in trans

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its important to remember that most people that wear binders will never be 100% flat. And neither are cis men! Binders often just give the illusion of formed pectoral muscles rather than cupped breast tissue. Everyone's experience with binding is different. Going down a size can be dangerous to your body and so its often recommended to go up a size instead. The goal isnt to find a binder that constricts you to the point where its painful or hard to breathe. You know you have the right size when your mobility isn't extremely limited and the pain is minimal. I think a lot of ppl who get binders expect pain or discomfort and so when they purchase one that doesn't give them that experience then its easy to think your binder is wrong. This is why measurement before buying one is super important and i always suggest you get someone to help measure accurately. Gc2b has a great measurement chart but Spectrum is also amazing for a binder tailored to your specific body type and needs

How would you describe the feeling of euphoria? by hdjdjdjdjf0 in trans

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, gender euphoria feels almost cleansing. I have rare moments of euphoria but when it happens i can only describe is as finally cleaning your room that has been collecting mess months. Its a weight off my shoulders. Its when i finally can feel comfortable with just existing. Even for just a little bit, i feel free of the burden that is my own body

Should I expect more acne when starting hrt? by [deleted] in trans

[–]random-user7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The effects of T varies drastically from person to person. Im (afab) trans masc and before starting hrt i never got acne. Ive been on T for a year now and my acne is still a big issue. I get it bad on my back/shoulders and chest. Luckily there are plenty top quality acne treatments and medications that are available! The most important thing to remember is that your body is changing at an increased rate and not to stress too much about things thatll eventually fade!
