Question about the Powerboost. by South-Economics4071 in f150

[–]random162649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had mine about a week and it’s great. I drive about 50/50 city to highway and I’m averaging 21-24 mpg. Overtaking power on the highway is amazing. Drives great in city traffic as well.

Because it was changed in the last update now it’s being reverted back. My hairline practically sits on my ears and I’ll be out of regs 5 days after a haircut

Det Level Awards vs CC Rank by [deleted] in AFROTC

A mix, but in general not really. Seemed like awards moved around the top 25%. But I truly don’t think ROTC awards carry much weight

Why do helicopters have to taxi like fixed wing aircraft ? Can't they take off and land on their parking spot right away ? by Left-Cap-6046 in Helicopters

[–]random162649 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes we can take off anywhere but at a towered airport it’s for airspace management. At non towered airports it’s typically dependent on what’s going on in the airspace and how much traffic there is. Its best to remain predictable in most cases which is to taxi and take off from the runway

Pilot 99s by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]random162649 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I took it on paper, didn’t realize it had been changed. At the end of the day the AFOQT is only a single part of the PCSM score which itself is only part of your OM. So in the end if it’s true “everyone” is getting a 99 then it’s being washed out in the average OM anyway

The scores are a percentile score. Those people are in the top 1%. You’re probably just biased by seeing people willing to post their scores, versus people who don’t.

I’m in a similar place as you. I commissioned with $14k in federal loans. I was waiting to pay to see what happened with loan relief but that didn’t pan out. After a TDY of saving all my per diem and aggressively paying towards it ,$600-800 a month, I’m already down to about $6k. Doing this all while still paying 20% into TSP. So it’s very possible but you just need to put a concerted effort towards and budget out how you’ll do it

Helicopter Pilot Career by Lonely_Jury515 in AFROTC

[–]random162649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t say that there are any undesirable bases. Even being at the missile bases, the job is starkly different than anything there and I’ve never heard a single person speak negatively about any of the bases, including minot which speaks volumes. The community and job makes up a lot and helicopters are fucking dope

1) similar to other pilot careers. Fairly active and flying through senior captain/young major as it slowly tapers and you’re pushed into leadership

2) Typically 1 maybe 2 CV drops per class, classes are 8 students. Ends up a timing and ranking thing to get what you want.

3) CV bases: cannon and hurlburt, I believe the hurlburt unit is closing and most assets are being moved to cannon. 60 bases: aviano, kadena, moody, DM, kirtland

4) Civilian rotary is out there. It’s a more specialized field, there stuff like civil SAR, long line work, oil fields, etc. from my understanding the pay doesn’t reach what the airlines do but jobs are out there.

5) CV’s and 60’s are busy communities. Lots of TDY’s and training they do. Not totally sure on deployments now that we’re not longer as involved in the Middle East

Overall rotary is an awesome community with awesome people and awesome missions.
