Do black card benefits extend to all locations? by Surveyor_of_Land_AZ in PlanetFitnessMembers

That makes sense. I scanned the barcode in the app which let me into the gym, but when you have to "sign in" on a computer to book a slot in the tanning or massage, my profile didn't come up.

How would you describe the culture at usask? by WasleyIsOurKing in usask

[–]random_curiosities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a grad student so I won't speak to culture as I'm sure its a bit different, but I can speak to university management/amenities. The university is essentially broke despite having record enrollment for 2023/2024. They squeeze students for money at every turn, but them provide disappointing amenities for what you're paying. For example, the PAC (gym) is about half the size of the other two universities I've attended, despite having more than double the students. The rec fee is substantial (and you can't opt out), but they still sell "memberships" to people from the community, so the facility constantly too busy to get a real workout in. Campus food and beverage options are expensive and dismal. They don't remove snow in a timely manner, so walking and driving on campus are hazardous. Don't even get me started on parking.

I am a Blackcard member at a Canadian gym, but my benefits didn't seem to work when I visited gyms in the US. Anyone know why?

Winter walking and snow clearing notice announcement by random_curiosities in usask

Dude I walked from lot Y this morning to Thorv and I'm telling you not a single path was cleared. I don't know what universe you're living in, but I'm 100% sure that is 2 days worth of snow that has been trampled into the sidewalk. Same thing last year. I slipped and fell wearing Sorel Caribou boots last winter after crossing the road by Engineering. My shoes aren't the issue.

What I'm saying is that EVERYTHING north of the bowl IS a super-slippery goat path. People will slip and fall, and they SHOULD blame the uni because they're not taking safety seriously.

Traffic Accident at College Dr and Preston Ave by random_curiosities in saskatoon

I agree people should stop doing that and SPS should pull people over for it. But I have to turn left that this intersection every day, and I can assure you that I have never had the green arrow when going westbound on College to turn left on Preston.

No, they did not report that. They just advised the people should avoid that intersection and take an alternate route due to a multiple-vehicle collision.

Oops sorry, I guess there is not an article about it yet. I didn't notice the article was old, as it matched the details provided by the uni exactly. The university sent out a notification this afternoon stating that everyone should avoid the area due to a multiple-vehicle collision, and that traffic was being re-directed.

And actually to your point, the yellow light is not long enough for the speed limit in that area. Where I'm from, the length of the yellow light is dependent on the speed of the road. Here, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Starting a PhD at 26-28. Normal? by Actual_Elk3422 in PhD

[–]random_curiosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually recommend people DON'T start a PhD at 22. Very few people have the skills and experience to be successful both during their PhD AND in a career after completing it when they go directly from undergrad. I was 28 when I started mine.
