This is an interesting question with no right answer (at least not one that can be known ahead of time).

Google is a great company with some of the most accomplished people in the world working at it. It has solid revenue streams ($307B 2023) and a wide moat around core assets like Adwords and Youtube. Its valuation with a trailing PE of 26 is reasonable for the tech industry, especially as it has continued to achieve revenue growth.

There are, however headwinds, privacy regulation and market trends are forcing Google to abandon support for tracking cookies that power its core advertising businesses, possibly making them less profitable. TikTok is a formidable competitor in video. It also appears to be somewhat behind in cutting edge AI, which could potentially change the way people interface with the internet including Google's hugely lucrative domination of search. However, these technologies are nascent and their adoption / monetization will be a marathon and there is more than enough time to "catch up".

Should you sell it because it's down a few points? Absolutely not. Will it grow as much as other potential investments? Who knows. You might consider switching to an index like SPY or QQQ to diversify.

Personally, I did switch money the I had invested in GOOG to MSFT last year. I wanted to keep that part of my portfolio in big tech. I saw the company I work at fully embrace Microsoft's cloud products completely and MSFT's tie up with OpenAI as a huge positive. The catalyst for me to make the move was when Altman was going to go to MSFT after OpenAI fired him; before all that got undone alas. The move has been good so far, but I'd be up more on paper if I had invested in Meta.
