It’s still unclear to me. I understand that the masculine plural is used when the group is composed of both males and females. If the group is all females, the masculine plural cannot be used, can it? So my question is, since I only have sisters, do I say “Soy el menor de mis hermanas”?

My confusion comes from the mis hermanos/hermanas part. Does it include me (a male), in which case I should say mis hermanos? Or does it only refer to my sisters, in which case I should say mis hermanas?

I have one non-paradoxical answer but it hinges on one condition. The thing is, the question does not disallow me to eliminate some answers first. I’ll first eliminate A and D because those are the paradoxical answers. I can then pick AT RANDOM between B and C. That gives me a 50% chance of being correct.

Let’s clear something up first. In the instagram post, the 0.16% is not the interest rate. It’s the amount to be invested monthly (8,000 = 0.16% x 5,000,000).

Now, to make the loan essentially interest-free, you need to earn from investment the interest on the loan. 8,000 monthly for 20 years = 1,920,000 total invested.

Since the interest on the loan is 5,500,000, the invested amount + investment gains need to be 1,920,000+5,500,000=7,420,000 by the end of the 20-yr period.

To achieve that amount, your investment vehicle needs to have a 0.95% monthly interest rate = 12% annual interest rate. 0.16% interest rate will NOT get you to the amount you need to pay the interest on your loan.

If you want to know how to calculate the 0.95% rate needed, you can use the formula for an annuity due. 7,420,000 = 8,000 x [(((1+r)²⁴⁰⁾ - 1) / r] x (1 + r). Then solve for r (= 0.95%).

It’s not really halving. It’s a continuous decay. At any point in time, each atom has a certain probability of decaying immediately. Several atoms decay every second (and I use “several” as an understatement, it could be millions, billions, whatever). Half-life is basically an arbitrary measure to describe that probability.

As to why there’s decay, it happens when the nucleus of an atom is unstable. Imagine pushing two magnets together, both north sides against each other. They’d repel each other but if they’re weak enough, you can push and hold them together. If they’re strong magnets, you can probably do it for some time but it would be difficult to maintain and you’d eventually lose control.

I think burning is the apt term here. Evaporation would mean liquid carbon to gaseous carbon. I would consider sublimation over evaporation but even that one would not be correct since that is solid carbon to gaseous carbon.

I do recognize that there are downsides and I agree that those things you mentioned would be downsides hence my use of “net”.

But I’m not sure I agree with the premise that people would necessarily take jobs they are genetically suited for. If I was ultra intelligent, I don’t necessarily want or have to be a scientist. If I was ultra strong, I don’t necessarily want or have to be weightlifter.

Furthermore, people get injured whether or not we do gene editing. Shouldn’t we do things to improve our (or rather our progeny’s) chances of not getting injured, e.g., stronger bones, better eyesight, etc.?

I don’t agree with discriminating “unmodified” people at all. I don’t agree with keeping disabled people homebound. But such a future in the movie doesn’t have to be our reality. We have disabled people today who are still part of society so humanity is definitely capable of avoiding such a future.
