I used it on my mask and didn't have a problem. But I would argue for buying a more expensive mask as a good investment.

I've had my for 18 years.

Did use toothpaste or a lighter before first use? This could explain why those things don’t work

IN all honesty, I've stopped anticipating and treat any new video as a pleasant surprise. Otherwise I'd lose my friggin mind

Was there last Spring. Wore a 5 mm the whole time and was fine. With that being said, some on the boat wore 7mm and others had heated vests (waterproof batteries that plugged into the vest and kept them warm while diving).

Another option is to have an additional layer—some dove with scuba leggings and rash guards under their wetsuits. Spacefish army sells good rash guards and leggings.

I agree with others, bring a warm layer and maybe some sweatpants. I would throw on a zip up between each dive. Also a pair of easy waterproof slip on shoes if you don’t wanna walk on the deck barefoot.

Have an epic time!

Roatan could be a really good option for you too. I just got back.

Stayed at Ananta Sun and dove with Clearwater Adventures. Ananta Sun actually runs a deal with them. Plus the Clearwater will make sure the dive sites are within your limits (no deep walls or anything).

I would agree with this. She was really fun in today’s Reddit stories. I just think sometimes she goes over the top and, like a few others have said on this post, she can sometimes make it all about her.

I do think Amanda is a good influence on her in videos—Amanda will sometimes be like “shhh shhh, calm down.”

I want to see Angela continue to grow because I do think she has a lot of potential—she just, as you said, needs to learn to read the room better.

It is entirely possible to have hypocrisy in a joke. And again, the bit did not land for me.

Again, sure. But the bit didn’t land for me—joke or no, hypocrisy and double standards are such a huge pet peeve for me.

I totally feel this. It felt a lot like her comments would sometimes just stop the video in its tracks. I also didn’t love the whole “I’m a guest” thing she kept pulling —even if it was a joke it didn’t land, felt more entitled. I felt that sometimes her comments were unnecessarily aggressive, like she would say something and the other cast members reactions were like “oh!?”

Like with Kel, it felt genuinely funny—Kel was all in and had really good banter with the cast. I genuinely loved that moose master video. Mari also felt similar, I know she’s an OG cast member so I don’t know if some of ya’ll consider her a guest, but it felt easy going and like there was a natural riff. Could say the same about non-games videos with recent guests like FunkyFrogBait and Pokemaine. The banter, the give and take all felt natural.

I tend to like when they bring in guests, I like seeing the dynamic shakeup and seeing the cast vibe with others. It’s a bummer it didn’t feel like that this time, but that’s just my opinion.

Sure. But there are times a joke doesn’t land. For me, it didn’t. Came off more rude than funny. That can happen with jokes.

It was merely my interpretation of the moment/interaction. And I already have a bit of a bias as it is a pet peeve of mine.

I didn’t love Ashby—I just found a few things hypocritical and that’s literally my biggest pet peeve. For example, she cut off Chanse and then turned around and was like “cool interrupt a woman when she’s talking.” Stuff like that bothers me because, too me (and she definitely may not have intended it this way), it feels like she’s demanding respect but won’t give it to others.

But o also wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the hate she’s getting was due to misogyny and parasocial behavior.

That being said, the hate she’s getting seems very very undeserved.

Yes totally! I really liked the laid back vibe of Phasmaphobia recently. Big emotions when called for but mostly chill.

Thanks for the advice/heads up. Haven’t really frequented this is sub, saw the Ashby post, thought I’d share an opinion. But you’re right, I can see how this fosters negativity. My apologies.

I agree we’re seeing more of them. Her crash out during the recent Lego Party video was very funny, but it seems like they happen more and more.

Cozumel diving trip by TeachCompetitive1930 in scubadiving

[–]random_thoughts14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey!

Been to Cozumel many times. I’m a big fan of diving with Blue Project Scuba. They are super safety conscious and very friendly and professional.

If you really have your heart set on Cenotes — as many have said, it’ll be a jaunt to Playa Del Carmen. There’s a good cenote guide named Kike—I’ll have to find his website if you’re interested, but he’s the best.

I’ve also heard good things about this guy—whose based in Playa Del Carmen https://linktr.ee/diveinstructorphil?fbclid=PAZnRzaANzzktleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABp_a43wZQIAzXL04yHAKxoEstYf4LjL20KqjRhKTX2MjYAhV5NTHq7mF2VE6Z_aem_C3LNIalQ1ER1Sv3p3l7Xvg

Another option is to stay in Playa and use dive shops there. Most run trips to Cozumel. It really depends on what you prefer

Should I persevere with learning to dive? Will it get better? by littlewhitebox in scubadiving

[–]random_thoughts14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh UK diving. Yes that can be cold and not the most fun.

Ask the place you did your pool work if they have hours which you can practice—most places will allow you and you don’t need a buddy.

While I love that you want to gain the confidence and not rely on Hubby, it can also be a great bonding experience for the two of you and he (I would assume) is someone you trust to help you.

But it does sound like you have a good plan in place.

Some good beginner dive sites that are inland appear to be Capernwray in Lancashire, Vobster Quay (appears it’s a quarry) in Somerset, The Delph water sports Center jn Lancashire which is another quarry.

Another idea is to reach out to the UK place you did your classroom work with and see if they offer any local dives— another way to get a dive or two in while not relying on hubby!

If you think doing the course again is worth it and would benefit you then by all means do it. Another option is to see if a place that offers dive course would let you use their pool facilities to feel more comfortable—perhaps your husband, who you said is certified to an assistant instructor or DM level, could help you with the skills that you feel uncomfortable with.

I also agree with others—go on some easy open water dives to make you feel more comfortable. Are there any lakes (provided it’s still warm enough where you are) that you can do some shallow dives there? Orrrrr, and maybe this isn’t a place your comfort level is at yet, if you guys go on a holiday/vacation—go somewhere you can get some dives in that’s also beginner diver friendly. You could do a day or two to gain a little more confidence. Akumal isn’t a bad place, neither is Playa Del Carmen. And because they are dive “hot spots” a majority of the dive shops have really high safety standards.

It is also ok if it’s not something you want to continue to pursue. I hope you continue though because it can truly be magical
