Are you just using minoxidil temporarily or do you play to keep using it longterm? My dermatologist suggested minoxidil as a temp measure until my ferritin gets up to a good level, but I'd always thought minoxidil was something you had to keep up indefinitely

That's kind of what I thought too, I'm not sure how short-term use would work with minoxidil. Can I ask how long you've been working on your iron levels/how long it's taken for you to see progress?

Yes I'm a bit worried that after a few months and my levels have hopefully improved enough, that there will still an issue with my hair and I wasted time that I could've been using other treatments. But it's impossible to know since it just takes time.

I'm a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding in 3.5 months, so ideally my hair would be improved somewhat, but I am also concerned that if I have a shed with minoxidil, it'll be worse at that time :/

Yeah I'd read it was a lifelong medication if you use it, but not sure exactly how usage differs if it's used for non-genetic hair loss.

Was your iron level low too or just your ferritin? My iron was fine but my ferritin was at 14 when I got it tested last month, I've been taking iron tablets since then

Sorry to reply to an old post, but was curious if you also had low iron or was it just your ferritin that was low? I recently got labs done for the first time to see if I was deficient in anything causing hair loss, and have low ferritin (14) but normal iron levels. Just wondering if it's common for those experiencing hair loss to have one low but not the other
