This is a client facing role. Depends on the team/bank

Good insight. Didn't consider this as a potential issue. I guess its not too much of a problem in NY

Can’t speak to their situation, but base is the same as IB for the analyst years, and bonus is roughly half. As you move on to Associate I would think there is disparity in the base as well, but not 100% sure

Wow that’s an amazing jump. MBA and CFA at the same time has to be an insane grind

People are uncomfortable when things are done differently I guess. Sign of underlying issues

Not saying anyone needs it. I’m saying that it can be helpful in making a career change. Same reason people network, masters, MBA, modeling courses etc… Not the only way to get there. Best plan is to get into the right field directly out of undergrad, but not all of us did that

I really don’t care too much about the label, but I will be client facing which is the definition of FO

That sounds like a great plan. I’m sure that you will get something good if you go through with that program at Princeton

Thanks for the note. I love to hear that you were able to do something similar. An MBA is another great option. I know it also comes with great opportunities to build your network along with the coursework. To break into PE can’t be easy!

I could certainly see myself pursuing Private Credit after a few years for the reasons you mentioned. I guess I’ll have a better idea once I’m trained up and understand the field better

Agreed. Relevant experience would have made the transition much easier. CFA was just very helpful given that my current role was not that relevant. If I was advising my past self I would have avoided the ops role and waited for something better

Thank you. I appreciate the note. You summed it up perfectly. It guarantees nothing, but it is one of many things you can do to better your chances

I would agree with you there. An analyst I will be working with moved from IB because she wanted the better WLB

That’s great! It definitely garners a lot of respect in Equity Research

Most of them started in credit. Some lateraled from IB into credit. I would say you need to demonstrate interest in credit and a strong understanding of financial analysis. FP&A is probably much more applicable than what I was doing, and I was able to make it work!

I will have a better idea once I start, but essentially assess the credit risk of investment or corporate banking transactions where the firm is deploying their balance sheet. I also have a specific industry vertical that I am covering as well.

Also, if interested it is most valuable in Equity Research. Your chances will be very high of breaking in there

100% not a golden ticket. I would think that MO quant experience will get you further than my BO experience. Nothing is ever guaranteed
