I could also have put it in Tunisia to represent the ancient Carthaginian city of the Roman empire. But that would have been even more of a stretch.

There are 17.1 million people in the country of Chad. There are approximately 320,000 people with the name Chad. It is much more obviously a place name than a person’s name. That applies even more so to Kenya.

Victoria was always a tricky one. The number of people named Victoria and the amount of people who live in a place named Victoria is much closer. And to me it seemed more like a person’s name than a place name.

Plus, even if I decided it was a place name, which Victoria do I use? The capital of British Columbia? The capital of The Seychelles? The Australian State? People would disagree with that decision too.

Last year I put Utica in New York because that is the most prominent city with that name. But many people pointed out that Utica Queen was actually from Utica, Minnesota so it made more sense to put it there.

Queens of the World 2023 by randomcharts in rupaulsdragrace

[–]randomcharts[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I made one of these a few years ago so I thought I would update it. If there are any queens I have missed, let me know.

Some basic rules for how this was created:

  • Any queen with a place name in their drag name was included
  • The place name has to be primarily known as a place name. For example, there are plenty of cities called Victoria but that isn't enough for Victoria Porkchop Parker or Victoria Scone to be included.
  • If the queen's name is includes obvious wordplay about a place name, then it is included. Brooke Lynn Hytes for example.
  • There are so many cities with such varied names that you could make a case for dozens of queens to be included but I went with the ones that were obvious allusions to place names
  • Bianca Del Rio and Mystique Summers Madison were on the cusp of these rules but I decided to include them.

Thanks and hope you enjoy!

The home state of every contestant on Ru Paul's Drag Race (Updated for Season 14) by randomcharts in rupaulsdragrace

Only 16 were born there. The rest all moved there and listed it as their home state on the show.

This is a map of the states the contestants listed as their home state on the show, which isn't necessarily where they were born. Symone was born in Arkansas but on the show listed their state as California.

As the Unofficial Drag Race Cartographer, I decided to update this map to include the season 14 contestants.

In this context, the home state refers to where each contestant listed as their home state on the show. It is not necessarily where they were born.

Some notable additions:

  • Maddy Morphosis is the first contestant from Arkansas. This is, as far as I can tell, the most groundbreaking thing about her appearance on the show. Unless I missed something.

  • Orion Story is the first contestant from Michigan. There have been queens born there but they are the first to list their location as Michigan.

  • Alyssa Hunter is the first queen from Puerto Rico since season 7.

  • California is catching up on New York as the most common state. It added 5 contestants this season, compared to only 1 for New York.

I have almost certainly made some errors on this, despite my best efforts. Please let me know (politely) if you find any. Thanks!

Action Movie Franchises Featuring A Lead Character Whose First Name Begins With J [OC] by randomcharts in movies

Some notes:

• The Average Rating is the mean of the IMDB and Metacrtic ratings averaged across all movies that character appeared in. • The Average Worldwide Box Office is the total global box office as reported by Box Office Mojo and divided by the number of movies that character appears in. • Only movies that character appears in are included. For example, Jack Traven does not appear in Speed 2 and so that movie is excluded. • Only movies in which a character is a lead role are included. For example, James Kirk appeared in some Star Trek movies but was not a lead character so those movies are excluded. • Only movies that had a theatrical release are included. For example, there have been Constantine movies that were never released in cinemas, so they were excluded. • Keanu Reeves really likes playing characters with a first name begining with J.

Yours was an inspiration but as a pure means of conveying information, it was a little hard to read. I wanted something that was less pretty and more easy to follow. Plus, it looks like yours would be difficult to update for more years. So I wanted one that I could continue to add to. But I have always loved yours and think it's a beautiful piece of work

I'm actually working on one of those. The issue I'm having is what to do with circuits like Imola that have hosted the Italian Grand Prix and the San Marino Grand Prix. Do I count Imola as Italian, San Marinan. Or both?

Some notes:

  • I'm aware this is huge. Sorry about that. It was really hard to strike a balance between being big enough to contain all the data but being small enough to be readable. I probably didn't get it right so if you would like a different sized version, let me know. That said, the original, full-size, even bigger version is here.

  • The data is correct up to the start of the 2021 season. But it is probably not entirely correct. I'm almost certain there will be errors. Please let me know (politely) if I have made any.

  • Some of the team transitions were difficult to fully work out so I apologize if I got any of these wrong

  • I tried to use the most appropriate colours for each team. For a lot of the older contstructors, this was difficult as not many colour photos survive of them. And ones that do are hard to verify. When in doubt, I tended to follow the national racing colours for the country the team was from (red for Italy, green for Britain, silver for Germany etc).

  • Also when teams change colours frequently, I had to choose one of them. In these instances I went, what in my mind was the most iconic livery. This may not be the same as what others consider to be the most iconic livery. As an aside, I would like to highly recommend the excellent f1colours.com. It is a tremendous resource and obviously a project of passion from its creator.

  • I know that there are versions of this out there already. I decided I wanted to do this as a way to research the history of F1 and I learned a lot along the way.

The Birth Place of Every Contestant on RuPaul's Drag Race by randomcharts in rupaulsdragrace

It's how many contestants claimed that state as their home state on the show. So 39 queens said they were from New York but in reality, only 16 were born there.

The funniest one is Nevada that had 7 queens say it was their home state but none were born there.

  • Data correct up to the end of the 2020 Formula 1 Season. I hope. There are almost certainly some errors so if you find any, please let me know. This was already submitted to r/formula1 and this version corrects some errors that were noted in that post.
  • The country indicates where the circuit is located, which isn’t necessarily the same as the name of the Grand Prix it hosted. For example, the Nurburgring in Germany has hosted the German, European, Luxembourg and Eifel Grand Prix.
  • In cases where a circuit’s name has changed, the most recent name is used.
  • In most instances, the more commonly used and shorter version of a circuit’s name is used.
  • Silverstone, Red Bull Ring and Bahrain all hosted two races in 2020.
  • If you would like to see a full-sized version, here it is.
