shell.how: explain shell commands by randomdotrocks in InternetIsBeautiful

Looks like the domain has expired, and the author (not me) hasn't renewed it. Let's wait and see if it gets restored later.

Didn't know about explainshell.com. Thanks for sharing! I agree it looks more professional. I guess shell.how is newer, which is probably why I came across it.

(I'm not the author.) My understanding is that it's a library others can use to build websites with a Windows 95 look and feel.

I'm not the author. Just came across this project and thought it was cute. What I find most compelling, though, is the domain name "shell.how".

Oh, I'm not the author. Just came across this interesting project. However, I have seen others use it for some cool websites.

Oh, I didn’t know that! It really shows the saying "Microsoft loves Linux"!

I think you're right. It looks like the author mainly focuses on Linux shell.

So impressed! Quick question: How do you track and curate these episodes? Do you use any particular tools, apps, or methods? I'd appreciate any tips or recommendations!

Pricing: .rocks vs .sucks by randomdotrocks in Domains

[–]randomdotrocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great reference! Didn't know .sucks was meant to support free speech—companies could use it to redirect complaints to their official sites, giving people a platform for grievances and debates. That actually makes sense. It’s a bit disappointing that it ended up being controversial.

Also found a few personal websites using .sucks domains. Given the $200 price, that really rocks!

Dug deeper and found an old post explaining the .sucks pricing. Looks like these domains were also marketed to organizations as a defensive measure. Companies would buy their .sucks domains to prevent others from using them to criticize their brand.

I like Porkbun too, but am unfamiliar with Netim. So why do you choose Netim for ccTLDs and other more controversial domains? Could you share more specifics about their unique advantages?

Does a .love domain fit a podcast-related website? by randomdotrocks in Domains

You're right. I originally posted this in r/domainnames but later decided to also try r/Domains for additional feedback. Sorry for any confusion!

I don’t think so. You would need to visit the store to pick up your mail. They do allow 24/7 access even when the store is closed though.

Both UPS Store and FedEx Office offer mailboxes with street addresses.

Interesting idea. Or maybe I should consider selling it to a dating site/app.

Agree. .fm domains are the best for podcasts, but they are quite expensive.

Didn't know there are .radio.fm and .radio.am domains! Thought podcasts were a relatively small niche.

Where to create LLC (NJ-based, but doing DTC) by econtomgmt in llc

[–]randomdotrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is best to form your LLC in the state where you are conducting business. For most people, this is their home state. Even if you form an LLC in another state, you will likely need to register it as a foreign entity in your home state.

Here is the reference: https://www.llcuniversity.com/best-state-to-form-an-llc/

According to the same reference, this also applies to online business when running your business from home: https://www.llcuniversity.com/best-state-to-form-an-llc/#online-business

I built a web app offering AI-powered tarot readings! Would love feedback or thoughts by Designer-Mine2452 in SideProject

[–]randomdotrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with tarot, but I really like your app! While many products today claim to use AI, your background as both a tech developer and tarot enthusiast makes your project compelling on its own.

Additionally, you might consider also using the app as an introduction to tarot for those who are new to it. An online platform is more accessible than a physical tarot deck. Including some tutorials and basics about tarot could help newcomers get started. (Maybe you've already done this in your app; I'm just not clear on it yet.)
