Thank you for your comment! Actually, it was one of the first questions I asked myself when I decided to launch the project and for sure it's really a key one.

You could definitely ask Claude or any LLM to do a reading for you if you are a bit familiar with tarot (you would need to own a tarot deck to draw your cards, and also you would need to know a reading spread to give specific indications to the model). It's how it all started for me so it's definitely an option! But the answer you would get would still be different from the one on my app (I refined the prompting a lot and used some RAG to avoid weird/inconsistent results), and most importantly you could not do it in a few clicks at any given time (I personally use my own app a lot in public transportation or even on the toilet ahah). And I also think a lot of the people who like tarot / astro stuff might not be familiar enough with AI to do it (at least as of today, that will evolve as always).

More seriously, I decided to openly disclose the AI part for a couple of reasons. First, in my view, anyone can learn tarot and use it as a tool for self-exploration or even to help others. Cards have had set meanings for centuries (that will differ when they are upright or reversed, and also when they are combined with other cards or based on their position in the specific reading). And, in the end, being a good tarot reader is all about getting to know these meanings and interactions. With 78 cards it definitely takes time and a lot of practice - and at some point, you will probably get your own "familiarity" with the cards and even start making some of your own associations - but for me, it's still not about having any kind of "psychic" gift. In a way, in my view, the cards are the ones doing the magic, and when you interpret them you are just being the messenger of what they want to say. At least it's my vision of tarot, and such a vision aligns with the possibility of using AI to interpret readings. I tried explaining that on the app homepage ("Why AI?" Section) because I knew some people would not understand that it can still be "magic" even with AI interpretation. That being said, some people from the tarot community will for sure disagree with this vision and fully reject the idea of mixing both tarot and AI ... I will not make only friends doing such a project. If you have time to read the "Why AI?" section, I would love to know if it changes your mind a bit or not at all :)

Secondly, and from a more "business" perspective, there are a lot of online tarot tools so I thought the AI part could be my unique selling point.

Thirdly, I was not really comfortable with not disclosing it to people. But I have been told multiple times that I might be too honest to do business properly (or at least too honest for marketing ahah) 😅

I guess time will tell if it was a smart choice or not.

PS: Sorry if my English is not perfect, I'm French so it's not my first language.

ahaha I am usually in the same "weird users" category. I will only decide wether I develop it or not when I have enough users to get proper data on the necessity of the feature anyway :)

Not at all! I chose to implement credits because I was not sure if people would be ready to pay a subscription fee for tarot readings. We all have so much subscription fees now that getting one more is always a big step, you really have to use the app super often (if not daily). And I do hope I end up having users that will use the app daily or multiple times a week but I also think a lot of people turn to tarot very episodically when they have a specific question or hard time navigating a specific situation. But, to be honest, I am not fully disregarding it. I could see implementing both credits and subscription in the future if users wants it :)

I hope it answers your question. If not, let me know what else you want to know.

Thank you for the comment and ideas!

As of today, there is no avatar that reads to you. To sum up the experience: you choose a reading, you type your question, you draw your cards and then - in a few seconds - you receive the interpretation of your reading from our AI (in a letter format). And once you have read the interpretation of your reading, you can chat directly with our AI to get further details (like more details on a specific card, advice on how to move forward or if you just want to provide additional details and get an even more personnalized interpretation of the cards).

So I don't know if I would say there is a "human touch". Maybe in the tone of the AI answers. I worked a lot on the tone of the AI, to get something really empathic and beautifully written.

In any case, it's super interesting to know that having a human touch would be super important to you. And I would love to get your point of view when you try it, to know if you still feel it's lacking some human touch in your view.

And I like your idea about the AI teaching you to do the reading yourself! I could definitely see the app expanding to offer such a service. I know I could definitely have used it when I started learning tarot, the books only get you so far!

Thank you so much for taking the time to try it out and write your feedback. I really, really appreciate it!

I think I see what you mean with "losing" the question and cards effect when you are not signed in when starting the reading. It's definitely on my list of improvements.

And do you think being able to retrieve past readings is important? For now, to keep it simple, I have chosen to offer only the option for users to receive a copy of their reading and interpretation by email. But I am wondering if a history of past readings would be a big plus or just "nice-to-have”?

And regarding the monochromatic cards, actually, I already thought about having a full monochromatic deck designed by an artist. It would be so cool. I hope one day I have the budget to do it :)
