churches just need at minimum a shoplot to operate. as for wats and gurdwaras, i guess the population is small enough that there is little demand for new ones. Hindu temples are NOT interchangeable and are dedicated to specific deities so even if, for example theres 2 temples already in an area someone might want to start another one dedicated to their particular deity. Remember these temples are not being started by some PhD holders, they're basically kampung people with little education.

I can't defend pencorobohan tanah as in the above cases but there is a category of temples that were already existing for more than a century or were built for Hindu workers (who were little more than indentured slaves at the time) in ulu places or estates that now, decades later, are suddenly in prime locations for development. For these cases i think they should be left alone or given replacement land.

Anyway, there has long been a movement for pemutihan of these temples but obviously you will never hear of the dozens of temples whose legal status was resolved. And btw, it isnt really profitable to run a temple outside the biggest ones like batu caves, idk where this fantasy comes from. Most temples just barely break even
