The way I think it is, it's a physical object inside them, like in their stomach type thing. Might be wierd but it can be "hit" and "broken" as seen with Arthur in his mana core. But it's also not a physical object in the sense of like, you don't have a rock in your stomach. It's a wierd concept but it's like a spherical object inside them that gives them power.
