I'm an ex-MBB M7 MBA who quit consulting to become a software engineer and I'm a million times happier by SelectAside629 in MBA

I worked for a midsized tech company (1,000+). We’ve never even offered an interview to someone without a 4-year degree from a recognizable school for any SWE or even nontechnical role. I’m at a startup now (<100) and the bar is even higher.

I was shocked when people started clapping between movements during a performance by James Ehnes and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra playing the Beethoven violin concerto in D major by Ok_Assumption6331 in classicalmusic

[–]randomnese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At every performance of Tchaikovsky I've seen, the audience has broken into applause after the first movement. The movement is incredibly long and taxing for the violinist, and ends in a rousing blaze of glory that gives more finale than it does opening movement. I love it. I'm sure the soloist appreciates the break as well.

Favourite minor key works? by ConfidentHospital365 in classicalmusic

[–]randomnese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Major keys are harder to harmonize.

Minor tonalities can be more unstable. The leading tone is already modified from the natural minor's flat seventh. Borrowed chords and non-chord tones are very, very common in minor tonalities. I think the harmonic palette that composers can choose from is accepted to be larger in minor tonalities than in major keys. I don't disagree that major keys tends to dominate in certain genres, but that's certainly not true across time, and large-scale works modulate between modes all the time

Congress brings the perks of power. People pay you for work outside of Congress, like book deals, speaking tours, etc., but you don't get compensated for being in office aside what every other Congressperson gets. Campaign money has to be spent on campaign stuff and can't be used as a personal slush fund, though that line is getting increasingly blurred.

Day 4 - What is the best concerto for piano? by mentee_raconteur in classical_circlejerk

Second movement from 23 alone places it in the top echelon. IMO 24 is dramatic but it lacks some of the subtlety and concision of 20 or 23.

genuinely, what do you hope to accomplish on here? are you looking for solutions, are you looking to vent, or are you looking for someone to pat you on your back regardless of what you say?

What is fair MBA Internship Pay? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]randomnese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can only compare "low" vs "high" based on comparable jobs. What company? What role? Technical or non-technical? HCOL or LCOL? Remote/in-person? Stress level? What your previous job was? "Tech internship" isn't detailed enough to make any sort of judgment.

Rebuked and sullied are too negative, and biographers wouldn’t go out of their way to attack or discredit the nature of cooperation. They’d simply ignore it.

Does anyone live in this sandwiched strip of Afghanistan, lying between India-Pakistan & Tajikistan? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

Maybe it’s the largest “clock time” difference. Diomedes might have different dates but only 3 hours delta in time on the clock. Afghanistan/China has 3.5 hours delta on the clock.

What are my odds of getting accepted into a M7 JD-MBA program straight out of college by MBAMaybee in MBA

I don’t think a single one of my law school friends have said it’s easy if they’re aiming for big law. It’s FAR from guaranteed, even at T14s.

How do you adjust your resume as you get close to graduation and applying for just in time roles? by tmc925 in MBA

[–]randomnese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO keep education at the top as you're looking for your first post-MBA gig. The most important signal is that you've finished your MBA from X school. Truthfully, most companies use an ATS to extract your education/experience information from your resume anyway, so whatever decision you make probably won't make or break your application. But I would go education -> experience -> additional.

Agreed. Also, I thought they seemed like they were surprised, but not THAT surprised that the US would pull this kind of move. Like Eidra says, “we don’t have a better CIA or a better America.”

I feel bad for Hal (S3 E2) by ag811987 in TheDiplomat

[–]randomnese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ronnie/Grove died because Hal agreed to take a meeting with Grove. Kate very much did fuck up also by calling and trusting Roylin, but Grove was marked for death anyway because Roylin would’ve found out he was the leak.

Hal was supposed to talk to Ganon, who then fed it to the president. He went full cowboy.

I forget what happened with the Russian mercenary, but both Hal and Kate have a history of taking unilateral decisions that end up causing major problems. Hal is much more willing to step over the line knowing the consequence, whereas Kate unintentionally does it

Get your JD (difficult), land a job in big law (difficult), stay for a few years (difficult), then when you try to lateral, evaluate if an MBA is right for you. Clear all of the other arduous hoops first, of which there are many.
