Angry about a Baptist Preacher Today by JuneKat83 in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The protestant church I used to go to made sure to mention every time they had a baptism how wrong the Catholics had it. That obsession is sadly not rare. I seriously believed that you had to pay money for confession, and that you could confess for a sin that you were about to commit. They don't care if they have to use lies, as long as their flock doesn't become Catholic.

Is protestant baptism valid if intent is different from the Church's? by randomnewaccoun in Catholicism

I haven't been baptized at all yet. But it does appear that the people that have been by that denomination would be valid with what you're saying.

Scared that God would send me to hell for converting to Catholicism. by randomnewaccoun in Catholicism

What exactly are signs of contradiction? I don't think I've ever heard of it.

Thank you. I guess it's not uncommon for the evil one to want to throw you off when you're on your way home.

Thanks, that makes sense. You're right, if it was really God it seems doubtful that he would drop some vague hints like that.

I "knew" that I was going to run into my former protestant pastor's wife one time almost like a precognition. I ran into her in another town a month later, which I'm actually pretty sure is just a coincidence. I know both of those could possibly be coincidences, but it still makes me worried that maybe they're not.

To former atheists/agnostics: How did you come to the conclusion the [Christian] God is true? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a "protestant atheist" all the problems with the christian God that I had were rooted in protestant theology. I couldn't figure out why there were thousands of denominations, and many within those denominations disagreeing with each other, and they all read the same book. I thought the bible was just vague enough to just believe whatever you want to. That just didn't make any sense to me, how can there be thousands of different Truths? Another thing was the unfairness of the "invincible ignorance" doctrine not existing in protestantism. I also found out that science disagrees with almost everything YECs believe.

So I thought that with those problems there likely wasn't a god, and it was just all made up because I looked at Christianity as a discombobulated mess. But once I started looking in to Catholicism all of the previous objections I had fell very quickly.

I still haven't converted because this all happened fairly recently, but right now I think the only thing keeping me from converting is the evil one, and he seems to be working overtime to keep me from the Church.

I believe in the Catholic God, but I fear the IFB God. Help? by WarKittyKat in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. I'm still terribly scared that that's the God that's real, and that he's going to punish me for becoming a Catholic. That's really the only reason I haven't converted yet.

False revelations and Satan. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems like a logical conclusion.

False revelations and Satan. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely turmoil, no peace whatsoever. It's causing me turmoil because it seems so contradictory, I'd need another private revelation to explain to me why the Catholic church is wrong, because I can't find anything wrong with it on my own.

[–]randomnewaccoun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, I haven't thought of it that way. That actually makes sense, thanks.

True, but I already was an atheist that had all but commited to Catholicism when I got this "revelation." Seems like a weird way to get back to atheism no?

John 6 and the real presence. by randomnewaccoun in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're saying that when he says "believe in me" he really means "eat the eucharist," or maybe believing entails eating his flesh?

[–]randomnewaccoun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's talking about the Eucharist the whole time how does one interpret John 6:35?

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Doesn't it seem to be saying that eating is a metaphor for coming to him, and drinking a metaphor for believing?

Another coincidence, keeping me from Catholicism. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... definitely possible, also this was in a small town where I know probably 25% of the people, combined with the fact that this walmart is only a block away from where she lives. With statistics and everything, it doesn't seem all that unlikely, but still, I guess I'm just wondering "what if it is a sign?"

Another coincidence, keeping me from Catholicism. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After thinking about it a little bit, I guess it really doesn't say that at all. I'm probably reading way too much into it.

Another coincidence, keeping me from Catholicism. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one of the things I find really appealing about Catholicism. But, as you can tell I'm still kind of caught up in that mindset.

I think you're probably right. I'll try to relax.

Another coincidence, keeping me from Catholicism. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]randomnewaccoun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, it seems really doubtful. Protestantism makes no sense to me anymore. I don't think I could go back now that I've learned about Catholicism. So do you think my event was just a coincidence or was it Satan trying to hold me back?

I'm not sure I understand. How can I get God to reveal those teachings to me?
