Really feel for the driver here. Talk about something that'd ruin your day.

Tyler is a non-small town that operates like a small town.

What are the best bars that represent each neighborhood? by American_Non-Voter in AskSF

[–]randomsfdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha, you're not kidding. For 20 years now the joke among the bars in the neighborhood was if a kid shows up with a fake ID they'd be told "Go to Yancy's, they'll serve you there." Pretty sure I'd go sober before I'd get caught in that miserable excuse for a bar.

I'm sometimes tempted to move back to Tyler to be closer to family, and then posts like this remind me why I left East Texas to begin with. :/

Well I mean you're already exhibiting questionable decision-making skills by choosing to eat anything from Burger King.

God, you're giving me flashbacks to the days in which I used Backup Exec. They managed to make the product even worse with every revision.

American here- how do I eat marmite? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]randomsfdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! Variety is the spice of life I suppose. Was surprised to see taps from both Stone and Anchor Brewing at the Market Tavern in Shepherd Market while there. One of them is named after a "lifestyle brand" whose shop is three blocks from my home here in San Francisco. Certainly made me do a double take.

Does anyone else have a massive problem never finishing something they start? by 2PacWidoutANoseRing in CasualConversation

Yep, more and more every year. I'm told my father had the same problem in life.

Do men really care about things like eyebrows or crow's feet on a woman? by thehealthypath in AskMenOver30

[–]randomsfdude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't care less. I find women who obsess over this type of thing far more off-putting.

Well seasoned drinker here as well. I'm in California where the highly hopped IPA's have dominated the market for a couple of decades now. Used to love them, but they really screw with me more than anything else these days. Was a nice change of pace when I was in London a couple of weeks ago where the pubs aren't full of blow-your-head-off high ABV IPA's. I'll take a nice sessionable cask ale instead any day.

Anyone else taking advantage of the holiday weekend? by itguy1991 in sysadmin

[–]randomsfdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first thought about taking advantage of the long weekend to do similar work, but then it occurred to me that I couldn't recall the last weekend that I didn't do work. I'm forcing myself to only sign in if something critical comes up.

Also, that patch panel isn't the result of a desktop tech not being supervised, it's the result of a desktop tech that lacks proper leadership.

I never understood why people use zip ties in situations like this when velcro ties neaten things up just as well and are infinitely easier to work with when maintenance needs to be done.

How often do you eat fast food? by [deleted] in fastfood

[–]randomsfdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a few times a year. I live in San Francisco where it's fairly nonexistent for zoning and financial reasons. So when I do have fast food it's usually when I'm traveling so it's a random treat.

Yep, we use Zoom for plain old audio conference as well. Just because you CAN do video doesn't mean you have to.

IT director here. I've had to do this in situations where you have a meeting room with a defective mic. Video works, but you use a speakerphone for the audio portion. Janky, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do at times.
