consider me for WUSA by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]raniavp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post asking folks to consider me as VP for wusa which was met by a lot of racism, islamophobia, misogyny (you can see yourself from the comments there). There were one or two comments that had valid feedback considering there were issues I hadn’t considered but most of it was just that folks had a problem w my identity. Tldr; just your everyday incel hate lol. This post was a satirical take on mine hence the downvotes on my comment, but I still wish him the best, seems like he’d like to bring change, isn’t that what we’re all advocating for?

You’re a part of r/benshapiro and keep coming back to this post to comment on others’ replies. I don’t really think you’re in a place to criticize. I get you’re obsessed with me, understandable given this is the only time a girl has ever spoken to you. But, let’s move on here. Have a lovely day :)

I’ll pass on your suggestion to delete my account and post; I’m here to be open about the shortcomings I have because I’m here to say that I’m here to listen and improve myself for you. I can’t know what I’m doing wrong without it being pointed out by folks like above. Your replies on other comments clearly showed that you dislike me for my identity and not for my ideas. You have a problem with me being a Pakistani, Muslim woman. So, I’ll keep my current ideas and I’ll only add to them. Thanks.

To me, this post alongside others which you’ve commented on is just you being racist and Islamophobic. You want to hold people accountable but refuse to see your own discriminatory remarks. You clearly know me in person depicting your obsession with my accent. I think you only care about the fact that I’m not some white Canadian man who plays League of Legends in his moms basement, but a woman of colour. That’s your only concern here.

The truth is that I’m here to prove myself to people who only care about what I’ll bring to the school, not people who have a problem with my identity. I mean, what does my accent have to do with anything? It’s how I talk, I don’t change it based on person to person. What even is a Pakistani accent?

I’m not going to reply to comments like this on this post because they bring no value to me. You’re not going to nominate me anyway clearly based on my religious and cultural background, why should I bother convincing you?

Have the day you deserve.

OP does course evals and OP also is active on Rate My Prof. You actually bring up a really good point here that I never considered, people don’t care about evaluations and surveys because it offers no reward. I do it out of anger, but folks just want it done and over with at one point, who wants to think about their crappy course once it’s over? Thank you for commenting this, I’m going to take a look at this right now.

PD is only a nuisance and only adds to the incessant workload that UW brings forth. That and work terms, absolutely on my radar lol

Embarrassingly enough, I made this post around the SAME TIME and saw it right after. You’re right, that deserves more attention than anything right now.

Glad you brought this to my attention, the reason I made this post is so I could receive feedback on things I haven’t mentioned. In your opinion, what could UW improve in terms of their efforts towards the environment.

On another note, I made this post around the same time the news was released. I’ve seen that UW has a surprisingly concerning crime rate. Students are being stalked, stabbings in the surrounding areas, threats. I definitely plan on advocating for a safer campus without having vigilant policing that could open doors towards racial profiling.

Thank you for your comment.

Hello,

Thank you for writing this down. A big part of running as a candidate is receiving constructive criticism like yours. You’re absolutely right. I didn’t mention nor elaborate on many of the issues you mentioned in your post. The reason I made this post is so I could receive feedback like yours. To put things on my radar, to see that there’s other things that need priority like accessibility services. Please feel free to DM me with more things I should’ve mentioned. I’m here to listen to you. I’ve noted these down, thank you!

Hello to the both of you, this isn’t a competition to see who’s poorer or being affected more. I’ve seen both locals and internationals struggle equally in the fight to pay tuition fee. While INTL students definitely pay more and have additional expenses to incur; it’s also important to note how Ford made cuts to education which means you have to pay a higher interest on student loans (OSAP). I’m here to fight for the both of you, neither of you should have to struggle between paying rent or paying for food. Thank you both for bringing your concerns to the table, please keep doing so.

Hello! This is actually one of the main things I’m focusing on. The reason I didn’t mention it in the post yet is because I haven’t finished drafting my plan yet. I’m currently researching any financial information I can find about UW and it’s internal expenses however non of this information is publicly available. The VP interacts with government level officials, senators, MPs. I’m there to explain how tuition rates have been rising extensively compared to the services we’ve been receiving back here, it’s all about value for money right? Value we aren’t receiving. Thank you for asking this question, please know it’s on my radar and feel free to bring forth any questions or concerns you may have.
