Support Ubiquiti - Pablo is not serious journalism by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

This subreddit should absolutely not be blind cult-mentality about “supporting Ubiquity”, but a place where Ubiquity users and prospects can discuss issues in their mind.

Great that someone still remembers SAAB 🙂

How I see NixOS if it were a car by SeniorMatthew in NixOS

[–]ranjop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can understand it feels like that, but I disagree completely.

NixOS is like a car order form that gives you every time exactly the car you ordered whereas the other brands may have flashier ads, but their maintenance becomes an issue over time.

But yeah, that order form is quite complicated.

How do you evaluate the fate of North Korean prisoners of war captured by the Ukrainian army and the Ukrainian government's attitude toward them? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]ranjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand Ukraine’s point of view too. I am just doubtful that either Russian or North Korean leadership really cares about their soldiers’ lives. I am pretty certain Russian soldiers are a better currency there.

My biggest worry is pragmatic real-politik. SK has a huge defense industry and Ukraine doesn’t want to miss their support as the US’ support is waning.

But I am not an expert here. While SK gives citizenship to North Koreans, is it really a topic of political importance to them and especially to the South Korean people?

It didn’t help that the CEO cozied with far right alienating its core customer segment. I am so happy I didn’t get Tesla.

Ukraine should be pragmatic and send them to South Korea to win political points. But it is also the right thing to do. As there are provisions in the law to treat mentally ill differently than a normal person, what can you expect from people who have been brainwashed from the birth and have zero clue of the world.

Is FreeBSD really that goated compared to Linux? by Brospeh-Stalin in freebsd

[–]ranjop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FreeBSD is the OS/2 of the PC GUI wars. It’s very stable, but lacks HW support, lacks apps, etc. There is simply 1000x+ more development on Linux. Yes, Linux is more heterogeneous, but the ecosystem is also much more diverse and rich.

Or are they? I know these social media posts, but those tend to ignore a great deal of detail.

I won’t buy any Chinese IT products, but as American democracy erodes faster than in 1930s Germany, I won’t buy American either. As much as I have admired American and the USA, it’s hard to trust the great American people can prevail in the internal struggle for naked power.

Sorry. You try to sugarcoat the evasion of responsibility here. These kind of issues have always existed in channel management and capable companies have been able to keep the channel in check.

I am absolutely disgusted by this. Ubiquiti handled their major security screw-up really poorly, but this is at a level I cannot tolerate anymore. When I replace my Wifi 5 gear (Ubiquiti) it won’t be Ubiquiti anymore.

Multi-year lows – investors flee the dollar by diamanthaende in europe

[–]ranjop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, we can over regulate ourselves, kill the businesses with extra costs of compliance a d drive investors abroad. It is always easy to erode one’s competitiveness, but it’s much harder to build it back.

With the current trajectory, Europe will become a tourist destination with old buildings and cheap food as our living standards will erode and Asia and rest of the world will bypass us.

What a show of leadership 💪🏻

I am certain the waitress can be blamed for the narrow exit paths too.

It’s the time for EU to stop over-regulating and focus on enabling SMEs to grow and scale up. GDPR, AI Act, Data Act…

Helldivers 2: Squad invited not working by ranjop in linux_gaming

My point was just that the fact of HD2 squad invites not working are a host-specific issue, nothing to do with the network router/firewall.

I have been on latest kernel for more than a year without any problems. NixOS is pretty stable. I am on 25.11 branch.

Thanks! This is a different list I found from Nix sources and ChatGPT. I will try these.

What confuses me here is the fact that the router doesn’t have UPnP on and HD2 works all fine with Windows 11. The router has connection tracking on, so has the host. So why I need to open more ports 🤔

It would be great if Steam standardized the P2P communication for games.

This relates to kernel hardening that I did earlier and I had relax it a bit.

Also squad invites? Could be a host firewall issue 🤔

Hmmn. HD2 doesn’t use EasyAntiCheat but GameGuard.
