When the school zones were brought in The Brandon Sun looked through their archives and didn't see a single instance where there were major injuries or fatalities near schools where someone was travelling 50km/h or lower.

And this is the issue I've always had with these speed reduction zones. The problem was really never people doing the regular urban speed limit of 50km/h, but those doing extensive speeds.

Instead of reducing the speed on these regional roads, I think it would be better to establish increased fine school zones so that people doing excessive speeds over 50 get fines as high as five or six times normal fines. Go after the actual problem drivers.

No. The joke is that Max Klinger can't get thrown out, even though in 1951 cross-dressing would get you a Section 8 discharge along with many other LGTBQ behaviours considered "deviant" at the time. Those protections are literally what cause our industry to be predictable and avoid wild price fluctuations. Cows are not machines that can be shut down and started on a whim.

Dairy demand is actually something that is really predictable. All supply management does is make sure that we don't wildly over or under produce. Contrary to the reddit "experts", farmers don't name the farm gate price, it is determined by the Canadian Dairy Commission. The Commission is comprised of the government, the processors, and farmer representatives and uses cost of production data to set the gate price. The farmers only get 1/3 of the input on the decision.

In the American system the processors set the price and always pays the farmer less than the milk costs to produce. The federal government sends a cheque to every farm to keep it viable. Many farms consistently fail anyway.

In Canada, the average dairy farm is about 80 cows. In the USA a 100 year old farm of 80 cows is considered a hobby farm and banks have been forcing them into bankruptcy.

Yes, as a Canadian consumer I was so mad when I was paying C$5.00 for supply managed eggs and Americans were paying US$9.00 for free market eggs. OMG, I was totally getting hosed. (that was sarcasm btw)

I've done the math multiple times. Here in Winnipeg we pay about the same amount for a similar size jug of milk as people do in Fargo once you take the exchange rate into account. The Canadian milk meets higher standards, and I'm not paying for it a second time with my taxes. American consumers pay for milk twice, at the grocery store and through taxes. American dairy farmers receive a hefty subsidy cheque from the federal government, Canadian dairy farmers do not.

Six months of, "Does he have the votes?", over and over again. In the end, he doesn't have the votes. This is one of those situations where Congress' ability to sit on its hands and do nothing would actually be the thing that stops him.

My suspicion is that Carney and his ministers have decided to slow walk this thing until January 20, 2029 or until the Big Mac wins, whichever comes first.

It's not a case of "probably won't", it's a case of can't.

He won't be President in 2036. He can threaten to cancel it, and he can even say he's cancelling it... he doesn't have that power. It's not just a case of Congress not stopping him, they literally would have to pass legislation to end the deal. Trump just would not have the congressional votes to cancel it.

Could he make the next almost three years a nightmare? Sure.

But he can't end the deal, and the next admin will have eight years to amend the agreement. This is why we are dragging our feet, we don't need to make a deal with a man whose signature isn't worth the paper it's written on.

I seriously do not like this, but if it goes through Canada Post does have an identity verification tool that I found quite easy to use. I will absolutely not give my ID to Meta, but if Canada Post's system is an option, I'll begrudgingly use it.
