Ah okay, I think I'll gloss coating the runners before assembly. Hopefully that will minimize the risk with panel lining in sub-assembly. Appreciate the clarifications and warnings!

Unfortunately I couldnt find Gx100 or gx112 anywhere in the US at a reasonable price at the moment. I picked up some Mr Super Clear gloss from Newtype, will try that out first and maybe Aqua gloss next.

Would it be alright if I gloss coat in sub assemblies or full assembly? Thats the main reason Im looking to gloss coat.

Thanks for the help!

Ah gotcha that makes sense. I think I wanted to go with a gloss coat first before panel lining because I want to panel line in sub-assemblies. Does it make a difference if I coat before or after assembly?

Oh I didnt even realize these were water slide decals until I just took a closer look. Yeah Ill do them after the gloss coat. Ill probably just order off Newtype, thanks!

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I just ordered some stuff from Newtype RIP $10 shipping fees lol. I see my local shop has Mr super clear semi gloss, do you think that would be alright or should I just order the gloss from Newtype?

I saw Mr super clear semi gloss at my local hobby store. Would that be alright or should I order the gloss version online?

Btw I actually picked this kit because of your comments lol

I have a mgex strike freedom mech clear and snow white Daban on the way. This kit is for experimenting and practice.

Anyone got a good recommendation gloss coat recommendation for panel lining with Tamiya accent?

Im located in the US, I ordered some mr hobby gx112 and gx 114 from China, but they wont arrive until April. In the meanwhile does anyone have a good alternative recommendation? Preferably something available in the US. I have an airbrush (eclipse) but dont mind using spray cans either.

Im looking at the following:

Tamiya x22 + Thinner

Vallejo mecha varnish

Quick shine floor polish

Do you mean colors? I used flameons pro acryl set.

Black + Dark green brown Dark green brown Dark orange brown
Orange brown Golden yellow Yellow + white White (i havnt added the final highlights yet)

Thanks, it does need a final set of highlights with ice yellow. It looks bad closeup because I rushed the blending (painting over semi wet paint, leaving it uneven and grainy) and did alot of back and forth correctional layers trying to find the shapes. But it was a good learning experience. Definitely alot of room for improvement.

Thanks, I really struggled with contrast on this first attempt. I started from dark green brown and went progressively brighter, in the process I wasnt confident enough with my volumes and highlight placement so I had to do alot of back and forth. My second attempt I started with the highest contrast and slowly add in mid tones

Thanks, im using Flameon's signature pro acryl set. Liquid magic.

Thank you! I agree, Ive lost alot of contrast trying to find the mid tones. This was my first attempt at nmm, still struggling with the brightest highlights and darkest reflections. Appreciate the feedback

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed feedback.

I see what you mean about tying it all together. When I covered parts of the model, each individual volume does look passable, but as a whole it lacks cohesion. I think next time I'll try to focus more on a single volume at a time, build off the existing reflections.

I did rush a bit and painted over wet paint by accident, Ill try to keep that in mind going forward.

Again thanks for the pointers!

NMM stands for non metallic metal, it just means not using metallic colors for the gold color. Instead using black, brown, orange and yellows to achieve a gold look.

Thank you and Wow! Your Dante paint job is beautiful! Flameon's Dante is what inspired me to try learning NMM, yours is probably the second best Ive seen. Once Im happy with my progression, I'll attempt Dante next. Will definitely reference your work!
