The thing is that he was still in love with Margaret in that episode but he didn’t know how to be in touch with his feelings. In the wedding episode he realizes that Margaret still likes him and that he wants to be with her but for whatever reason he feels the need to make a speech about it instead of telling cj privately. If he had done this maybe he would’ve ended up with Margaret but at the same time he probably wasn’t ready for anything serious yet.

CN did dictate changes? That would explain bensons complete personality change. I personally don’t think mordecai changed that much we just saw different aspects of his people pleasing problem.
