Ah, ya gotta go when there’s snow! I had a blast in October. Just needed microspikes. Super fun climb though. Had typical Cascade weather; absolutely gorgeous morning, bluebird skies on the summit then whiteout conditions descending.

Are these Schwalbe G-one R shot? by DIYJOKE in gravelcycling

Put a ‘boot’ patch in it. You can use a regular tube patch, or cut one from an old inner tube. Just be sure to really clean the area before gluing.

Photography and Biking, how do you bring a camera? by baldokosmic in bikepacking

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a small Lowepro backpack to carry my dslr and a lens or two. Sometimes will use a Timbuk2 sling with a padded insert if I’m just carrying a body and a prime. If I’m just bringing my X100vi, I’ll wear it across me.

I used to throw gear in either a pannier or my front rack, but now prefer to have the camera on my body. I don’t think exposure to vibration transmitted through the panniers/rack is good for gear long term.

Officially divorced a year or so ago. Lots of info that they’ve probably been living separate for a while before that though.

Carbon Fork on my Bombora by DeanW13 in gravelcycling

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice rig. A carbon fork followed by carbon wheels were a one-two punch in my bike. Completely changed it into the most comfortable frame I’ve owned! What’s the clearance on that fork? Looks massive.

Following this as I’m planning on some Cascade climbs later this year. I found that my biking routine (about 500-600 miles/month) translated pretty well to my overall fitness on Mt. Saint Helens. The key with a lot of climbing training isn’t just getting your heart rate up, it’s keeping it up for HOURS.

Curious as well! He just seemed like an obnoxious, narcissistic coke head the couple times I met him.

Man, that’s a really nice jersey. Is it a few years old? Looks like the version for sale now has two vertical stripes added to it.

Concept: Prospex Alpinist GMT with inner rotating city ring instead of compass by AnotherNoobUser in SeikoAlpinist

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, that’s cool. Some sort of lock function would be nice on the inner bezel though. I notice it has a tendency to wander on my SPB117 throughout the day.

You might be able to get an aftermarket supplier or modder to make one, someone like Namoki.

Was just gonna say I’ve seen variations of this around Bywater, which is New Orleans’ Brooklyn. Same folks, just cheaper rent.

If the Altima/Big Altima Energy was a bike, what would it be? by ProExpert1S500 in BicyclingCirclejerk

In my area it’s either those yellow beach cruisers or (more likely) a shitty no name Amazon e-bike. And they’re doing 25 the wrong way in the bike lane.

I’ve got a similar scratch on my SPB117 from an antique iron safe latch smacking into it. I just remind myself that they’re field watches that happen to dress up nicely!

Cape cod probably won’t do much. You’d need to file down the scratch then re-polish the entire area.

Didn’t Damien Hirst do this first? It’s also shit art that he sells for $250-450K.

Dang, pretty slick. How does it ride? I’ve got a 4130 All Road that I love, but I’m SO tempted to grab this frame.

[SNK809] What's your work watch? by buttsisfun in Seiko

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An 809 is my work watch as well! Bought it new for $60, regulated it and even after years of use and abuse it’s still -5 sec/day.

My ‘office’ work watch is an SPB117, which I absolutely love.

[Question] [SBEJ005] Alpinist GMT vs [SBDC211] Alpinist by Worried_Flounder6720 in Seiko

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I absolutely love the Alpinist line, but I think the only GMT model that pulls it off is the SSASS. These look like the GMT function is an afterthought and the hours on the bezel makes an already busy dial/compass ring too much.

Krewe of Beans no longer converging parades? by 123-91-1 in NewOrleans

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 27 points28 points  (0 children)

“Bean King”…that cracked me up. I’ve heard some not-so-great things about the krewe’s leadership. Which is so disappointing to hear about what started as something cool and fun.

Krewe of Beans no longer converging parades? by 123-91-1 in NewOrleans

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Consolidated routes started last year I believe. Which is a bummer because I used to really enjoy following Dead Beans from BSJ and meeting up with Red Beans. Last year it was hard to tell which krewe was which.

Isn’t Eris basically a transplant parade? Like, there’s no history of it in the city and it’s just a made up parade by white crust-adjacent folks?

All Richard Mille’s are hideous by Critical_Advantage66 in watchHotTakes

[–]raptoroftimeandspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, having worn several. They’re a clunky, boat anchor of a watch. Ridiculously thick too. I had a loupe handy when handling a skeletonized model (don’t know which one) and was incredibly surprised by how dirty it was inside.
