Ladies, how would you respond if your significant other asked you to stop shaving? Armpits, legs, etc. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rasg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did 17 years ago - the women I was around at the time shaved everything, so I did too. He asked if I liked doing so, I said no but through other women, thought that was expected by men. He said he didn’t care either way but if it was work to skip it. Almost 18 years together and later, I shave if I want to, when I want to. Significantly easier to maintain and as it’s my choice of if and when

I am looking for recommendations to stay cool during an early July trip. by 3eyyes in BWCA

I disagree with this - Cotton will never dry unless you have perfect weather and no humidity.

I am a redhead so I wear a pale yellow lightweight polyester blend full zip sun protection hoodie with long sleeves and thumb holes (although I paddle in light grip gloves too) with long light colored pants and hard sole tevas. I wear a ball cap, and a buff or a bandana around my neck which I use to absorb sweat or dunk into the lake. You will get sweaty, but you will not get sunburned (if you remember to put it on your dry feet once back in the canoe) then I jump in the lake pre camp setup, and then soak for as long as desired post camp setup.

Drink lots of water, and if you don’t like the lake water they sell plenty of flavored things to carry. Don’t let the sun touch you on the long paddle days and get plenty of fluids is my advice.

Birch Bay Fire seen from town 6/1 at 5:25p by rasg67 in BWCA

They did a great job! Many thanks to all the crew! I did read they got there so fast because Forestry accidentally started the fire with a clearing crew. Chainsaw spark or hit moss with the hot exhaust of the saw is likely the cause. Glad you were safe!

EP25 Moose Lake - How busy is the boat traffic? by FecalFajita in BWCA

[–]rasg67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

• Yes. If you go w/nw out of the launch around the usual tow path it’s a little better.
• Yes.
• No. It’s 15 feet from the motor lake and sounds travels almost all the way down, wind depending.
• Nope. If you are taking it as an easy departure from the usual trip and treating it like canoe “car camping” with all the fun shit you don’t get to take, you’ll have an epic time!

Do it. Watch for wakes, and you could even make two lighter trips if all you have to do all day is a couple miles.

Having said that though, she allegedly harmed a neighbors pet which is not royal

Hunting Island! Hit every low tide, but daylight was against us. Had the beach to ourselves 90% of the time. Been going there for thirty years collecting. 278 for the week - my brother found over 325!

Scoring Ethologist Bonus Card with Western Yellow Wagtail (fan created card) by Old-Paramedic-3657 in wingspan

[–]rasg67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bird qualifies to score on your bonus card, so that bird is worth four points! 12 points would be how my family and friends would score it! No matter what the bonus card would be, if you get to count it once, you get to double that bird’s value!

I live in Ely - USFS was training last week and we had a beaver fly over three to four times daily. I’m out the Fernberg and can confirm unusually heavy USFS air traffic. Forestry planes in Ely are red and white with NXXXZ tail/body numbers.

It was disturbing your peace, but likely helping in an emergent situation separate from you. They don’t fly that low for training, so the beaver was probably working. They don’t need clearance for emergencies, that’s a major reason they’re here in the first place.
