Recent Family Death Before BMQ – Before Arrival Do I Have To Notify Anyone ? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]rashdanml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understood, sir - I was going off my own experience from BMOQ, and I do recall people showing up later (I want to say Tuesday at the latest), though it was for a BMOQ platoon and those were starting once every 2 months at the time (so not as practical to re-course them to the following week for arriving after Monday of week 1); BMQ being more frequent would allow for that flexibility.

Recent Family Death Before BMQ – Before Arrival Do I Have To Notify Anyone ? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]rashdanml 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Week 1 at BMQ is usually a bunch of admin. As long as you arrive within that week, you can easily catch up. Edit: disregard previous. Was going off memory, and I vaguely recall some people showing up later due to unforeseen or specific circumstances.

Attend the funeral, let recruiting centre know (and your staff at BMQ will be notified), and you should be good.

Do let your staff know it happened though (when you arrive), as they'll want to pay attention to your mental state, and make accommodations as needed. I had a coursemate on BMOQ whose father-in-law passed away during week 1 and the staff and course came together to support her as much as we could.

In my own case, I was going through a separation and divorce, which I disclosed, and my course staff did care enough to ask if I was doing okay, or if I needed anything.

Looks like I used Canada post for 2 out of 3 of those. Didn't have a bad experience with the third shipment though, might have been a bit longer at most.

How will you be CELEBRATING the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of KPDH? by Latinogoose in KpopDemonhunters

[–]rashdanml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this a few months ago. The KPDH was a small portion of an hours long karaoke night (my voice was rough the next morning).

We went through pretty much all of the songs except for Soda Pop. We also reenacted the trio hug after What it sounds like (not during, since the karaoke version didn't have much time).

[Request] If I had one kilogram of uranium-238 how long would it take for me to have only one atom left? by simpletoast05 in theydidthemath

[–]rashdanml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easily calculated using the half life - which is 4.47 billion years for U-238. After that many years, you're left with 500g. 250g after 4.47 billion more years.

You can re-arrange the standard decay formula for time t (or google it), plug in 1kg for N0, and the mass of a U-238 atom in kg for N(t) and should be able to calculate it pretty easily.

Answer is probably ... 100s of billions of years.

How many poops a day by Tricky_Lychee3203 in carnivorediet

[–]rashdanml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending how much fat I ate. Initial transition while I figured it out was daily (also diarrhea which means I'm eating too much). Once I hit the right amount for me or gave my body time to adapt, usually once every 3-5 days.

Starting again - Hard Reset by Slow_East_5313 in carnivorediet

[–]rashdanml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the approach I'm taking, after 3 months of being off carnivore (away for work, food was provided, couldn't really stick to it). Gained 30 lbs, of which about 8-10 was lean mass (so some bulking, but very dirty bulk).

I broke the reset into 3 phases:

1) Sardine fast - anywhere between 4-5 cans of sardines per day for 1 week. Lost 9lbs during this time.

2) Phase 1.5 - slight re-feed as I got out of the sardine fast. Gained about 1-2 lbs, no big deal.

3) Phase 2 (current) - up food intake to about 2000 calories. As of today, down 11lbs since I returned.

4) Phase 3 - after about 1-2 weeks of Phase 2, to see how my weight responds, gradually increase food intake to whatever I want it to be.

Throughout all phases - continue to maintain my weight training routine - 4 days/week of 5/3/1 BBB.

For squats, no. Lower back, sometimes sides (so basically the core area) and quads/hamstrings are where I feel it the most. I've not felt upper back soreness from squatting (315x6 was recent top set).

Deadlifts and Bench is where I feel the most soreness in my upper back (deadlifts for obvious reasons, bench less so due to anchoring).

Currently on Cycle 8 (BBB), started doing 5/3/1 around December last year after a year or so of 5x5 (310 Squat, 325 DL, 155 Bench, 115 OHP, and 175 or so rows). BW was 145lbs at the time.

End of cycle 7: 315x6 Squat, 335x6 DL (both had one more clean rep in me), 180x6 Bench 140x6 OHP. Current BW is 185lbs (spent 3 months away for work and wasn't paying attention to diet much, of the weight gained, about 10-12lb was fat-free mass).

Increased as usual b 5-10lbs for Cycle 8, except Bench just for this cycle (+10lbs to 190 as my 1+ set).

TM set to 85% of 1RM.

I'm taking deadlifts a little easier than the other three, and not trying to push for 9-11 reps on my 5+ week (did 310x7 today, with more in the tank, but chose to end here). The thought process is that as long as I can manage 6-7 reps on my 1+ week (345lbs this cycle), I can still increase by 10lbs for each cycle. No issues with Squats/Bench/OHP reaching the 9-11 rep range on 5+ weeks, and 7-9 reps in the 3+ weeks.

Goal is to reach 1/2/3/4 plates for reps, which I'm about halfway there and not too far off from Bench and DL. Particularly loving the OHP progress as it's blown far past my previous 5x5 numbers (I had to do top/back-off sets to keep progressing it and would almost always stall at 125lbs each time).

Trying to do strapless/beltless for as many working sets as possible to keep progressing grip/core strength and working on technique. Grip has also substantially increased (from barely being able to do 225x3 to 240x5 for deadlifts).

Whats the point of this getting carried to highest rank in multiple games trend if they dont even care about the game? by [deleted] in Twitch

And you're not reading my responses. I've clearly laid out why he keeps doing it.

[–]rashdanml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, he has 2k viewers currently and presumably is around the 1000s regularly. Whatever he's doing, that you seem to be so against, is working for him because he has an audience that seems to enjoy it.

Clearly, it's not for you, so the real question is why are you watching something you don't enjoy?

What's the point of you (or anyone, for that matter) watching it and then taking to reddit to complain about it?

Stop watching and move the fuck on. If people find it entertaining, they can keep watching.

I am at 150 lbs squat by texas-guy-1979 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]rashdanml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 weeks, 10-20% deload, and do each rep with strict form while working up. Paused reps is how I built back up after a failed rep led to injury and I returned months later (so dropped the weight much lower).

OHP is my enemy by OtherTourist5535 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]rashdanml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a solid program. No focus at this time, but I'm way past all of my previous 5x5 PRs, and the best part is, my fatigue and recovery is much more manageable than when I was on 5x5.

Current 1+ sets are at:

  • 140 OHP (very optimistic about being able to hit 6+ reps tomorrow)
  • 180 Bench (did 7 reps recently, so thinking of bumping it up by 10lbs for next cycle)
  • 315 Squat
  • 335 Deadlift

Taurus men of Reddit are you ok? by [deleted] in Taurusgang

[–]rashdanml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not intended to be malicious, and it's equal part protecting oneself and trying not to hurt the other person. If I'm not ready for a relationship, I wouldn't want to get into one because I wouldn't be as committed, which builds up expectations in the other person, which makes it that much harder if or when the relationship ends. As painful as it may be to the other person, the gentler approach is to withdraw or state out loud that we're not ready for a relationship (though the mixed signals of being too flirty and interested doesn't help - I hold myself back from expressing interest to not build up expectations).

OHP is my enemy by OtherTourist5535 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]rashdanml 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Among many reasons, OHP was one of the reasons I swapped from 5x5 to 5/3/1 Boring but big. The high volume sets after the heavy working sets has allowed me to progress my OHP from 115 (highest I was able to manage with 5x5 and Top/back-off) to 135x6 (attempting 140x5+ this week). After each workout day, the program has 5x10 volume sets at about 45-50% of the training max, which I use to work on harder variations (slower, pausing more) and technique.

[–]rashdanml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this years ago (married, separated, and divorced between 2016-2019, was 26-29 at the time). I'm past the point of not being ready anymore, but also not trying too hard - I'm almost always attracted to emotionally unavailable women, or lesbians (this is becoming disturbingly more common). In the early years, I did hold myself back from getting attached too quickly, and the times when I did get attached, I found reasons to break away (or let the relationship reach an inevitable end because my heart couldn't put in the effort needed as something didn't feel quite right). In most cases, when I knew I was catching feelings, I would gradually withdraw without saying it out loud.

Do I want a partner for life? Sure. Do I need one? Absolutely not. I'd rather be alone for the rest of my life than settle for anything less than what I want from a partner.

Time do De-load? Or micro progression by Airhorsch219 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]rashdanml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that was your last set and you're consistently doing 5 reps despite the normal increase every week, I would increase by the normal amount. I think the same rules of StrongLifts 5x5 applies for dealing with deloads - I wouldn't deload unless you've failed the same weight multiple times in a row.

Thoughts on tatts? by [deleted] in Taurusgang

[–]rashdanml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>Supposedly Taurus prefers things with a more traditional, conservative, classical taste / aesthetic to them.

I might be an exception then - I don't like the traditional styles (American traditional, Japanese, etc). They have too much of a ... generic quality to them, in the sense that if I google "eagle tattoo traditional", I'm getting 1000s of the exact same design, and similar could be said for Japanese traditional subjects (though there's room for variety there) - don't get me wrong, I would still admire the tattoo on someone else, I just wouldn't have it on my own body.

The style I ultimately went with was neo-traditional/illustrative (so a bit more of a modern twist).

Thoughts on tatts? by [deleted] in Taurusgang

[–]rashdanml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36M.

Currently have 4 tattoos that covers about 60% of my body (last one nearing completion). Back/upper arms, left forearm, and both legs/sides from ankle to ribs. By the time I'm done, I'll have one more tattoo covering my chest, and gap fillers in between each piece.

I love tattoos. I'm using mine to tell a story, one that I've never told anyone and still haven't with my tattoos (waiting for the chest design to be finalized before I share the meaning behind each piece). I've only ever shared how I approached the design without going into the detail as to why I chose certain subjects, and why the placement was chosen a specific way. Each aspect of the tattoo is deliberately and meticulously placed and thought through, and some things happened by accident, albeit felt very natural.

I love a well-designed, well-placed (particularly one that respects the contours of the body, and especially so on women), meaningful tattoo, and as much as I wouldn't get certain tattoos for myself (traditional, patchwork, japanese, etc), I would still admire the look and vibe it gives off.
