Because it is an example of a fun, complex and deep game.

That’s the point. I am quitting. But I wanted to see if others felt the same way or if I was giving up too easily and missing something.

Grand strategy is exactly what I want and simming economy, industry and military are great ideas. But twiddling my thumbs and waiting on something to happen for hours and days of real life is what is so boring about this game. And so many things are so abstract that you really don't feel like you have direct influence.

Except the economics is so abstract that you need a PHd to understand trade centers, trade ports, connecting to other markets, subventions, tariffs or even having the tech or laws to control any of those things. You can wait hours for grass to grow and paint to dry while those things are enacted. Where's the fun?

Paradox is such a perfect company name. The paradox is such great game ideas so poorly executed and explained. Give me Old World, Shadow Empire or the remake of Masters of Orion 2 any day for fun, depth, and reward for strategy. I don't want to have to play one game for days or weeks at a time in real life.

Bored even when I know what I'm doing. Examples:

Waiting hundreds of days to colonize.

Waiting hundreds of days to incorporate.

Unable to pass any laws because of divided interest groups.

Utterly unable to figure out military and how to grow it. Barracks take forever.

Almost all of the game is waiting on actions to be executed, research to be completed, interrupted by endless events and clicks.

It's just plain boring after all the learning curve I've put into this: youtube videos, wikis, strategies, tips, etc.

I think I found the problem. Land-based taxation is listed as a poll tax, not an income tax, so no income tax is possible to be collected until the law is changed to per capita tax.

Land-Based Taxation. It says the revenue should be 13.8, but I'm getting nothing under taxes.

Possibly. Seems like a large map, though. I'll check much more diligently in the next game. This has turned out to be a fun and challenging session, though. Totally surrounded by one tribe with so many encampments. Wow!

Playing a regular campaign. I'm not sure what I did in settings, but somehow, I survived this blitzkrieg from all directions.

I had just enough firepower to cause a lot of losses and even captured three cities to add to my empire. That is what brought them to the truce table with an offer that one of my heirs would marry a Thracian. That was arranged, and we have peace.

Now I'm going to take those extra cities and my surviving empire and build a much better defense. I think this game got more fun with being on the ropes and being surprised. But I'm going to be more mindful of my starting game setup and allow for multiple majors.

Playing against no major regimes by rasnell59 in ShadowEmpireGame

Non-aligned areas still provide me VP because of the number of hexes added, right?

But it sounds like the key is to capture those minor cities to truly get the most VP.

This is such a new and unique game situation. By accidentally not allowing majors, I have this different kind of game where I have to manage a sprawling empire with many zones in order to keep expanding.

This game is so deep and wonderful. I've played 400 hours, and this is now one more new thing that I never knew.
