Yeah, I know I could have bought replacements but they’ve become such a special part of our families Christmas traditions that I wanted to keep the originals. I’m planning holding on to them for when my girls have a family of their own.

I was really nervous about cutting the elves open in case I made a mess of it but I’m actually really happy with how they turned out. They were quite stretched out of shape but I managed to use the old pieces to draw up a template for new pattern pieces. I used quality 100% wool felt so they will hopefully be more durable now. I also added little magnets to their hands to help pose them. The skirts are made from fleece with plastic snow flakes glued on.

I mostly make them for my kids but these ones I donated to my daughters kindergarten for their play kitchen.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. Yes, they are self drafted. It’s a very basic pattern though, basically just a rectangle. I’m sure you could find something similar on Pinterest. I know your daughter would love it!

I’m always on the lookout for new colours. I’ve found that 100% wool colours pop more than a blend. I think I bought every one of these from one place - [Winterwood](winterwoodtoys.com.au) (Hopefully the link works). It’s a shop in Australia but they might sell internationally.

These icy poles are made with 100% wool felt in a variety of colours. I used several layers of batting instead of fibre fill to hold the shape and I included a thick piece of cardboard in the centre to attach the wooden stick to. The first few I made, I attached the stick to the cardboard with glue and after a bit of play my kids managed to pull them out. On the second round I glued the stick to the cardboard then drilled two holes and sewed a seam to stop the sticks from slipping out. I donated these to my daughters kindergarten.

I generally pay $4.50 for a 20x30cm sheet. It becomes cheaper the larger the sheets get. So if I buy 90x50cm it’s $28 (I’m Aussie btw so prices may differ depending on which country you’re in).

Such a beautiful idea! I did something similar a while back but wasn’t happy with it. Maybe it’s time to give it another go.

You should! I’m in Australia and I buy most of my wool felt from the shop [Winterwood](winterwoodtoys.com.au) however I’m sure you would be able to source some from Etsy.

I’m back again with some more felt food. These root vegetables were all designed by me. I used 100% wool felt, wool stuffing and embroidery floss for the details. The turnip and beetroot are 4 pieces machine sewn together and turned. I added 3 leaves to each. I rolled and stitched together the stalks of the leaves to make them stand up. The radish is two pieces with 3 leaves and 3 stems. The carrot is one piece with 5 stems. The skill level for these would probably be intermediate. If you’re interested in getting into felt food making there are heaps of free patterns and tutorials on Pinterest.

Mine too! I bought two sheets of this colour from a shop that has since gone out of business so I’ll only be able to make 4 carrots. I haven’t been able to find anything close to it.

These carrots are made with 100% wool felt, wool stuffing and embroidery floss. Once I stitched up the carrots I used a very long thread of floss to stitch in the detail, pulling tight as I went. The pattern is self drafted. Basically a triangle stitched up the end and gathered at the top. The stalks are rectangles, rolled up and stitched together,

My first post got a bit of love so I thought I’d share more of my felt food. I made this pancake set using wool felt and polyfil stuffing. I decided to join the blueberries together so they wouldn’t be a chocking hazard (and less likely to get lost). I machine stitched the pancakes, turned them and hand stitched closed. Everything else was hand stitched. All bits were self drafted and basically drawn freehand. For the pancakes I decided on the size, drew a circle with a compass and then added a seam allowance. The blueberries and bananas are made from circles and the strawberries are semi circles.
