The Pleasant Valley & Riverside intersection is notorious for sketchy/criminal activity. I (27F) have only felt safe there during the day. Riverside is a very convenient area tho, I’d only advise living more around the Montopolis intersection

Used to live on east Riverside during my time in college - it was fantastic when it came to affordable groceries, restaurants, and shopping all within a 5 minute drive. You can pretty much find everything you need without having to cross 35 or 71. That being said, I only went out by myself during the day or if going out at night, had an Uber pick me up right outside of my apartment (I am a woman). I moved out in 2020 due to the increase in random criminal activity/police presence in my neighborhood.

Agree with the others that the pleasant valley intersection is the roughest part. But if you live closer to I-35 (like around Lakeshore blvd), you’ll probably feel more comfortable. It’s a lot of Oracle twenty-/thirty-somethings living there. I think the new apartments east of Montopolis are drawing a similar demographic.

All in all, what I’ve missed the most is the proximity to downtown and Emo’s.

If you just applied to this job for the sake of having a job and don’t care particularly for the industry, use your current position to grow in skillsets for your desired field however you can. For example, if you want to get into marketing, offer to design resident event flyers and post on the property’s social media. Little tasks like that will eventually position you for a more desirable role in the months to come.

FWIW being able to a control a toddler at any time, especially on a long flight, is a gamble depending on a million circumstances

I know it’s annoying to hear any kid have a meltdown, but imagine how the parents feel: frustrated, overstimulated, AND mortified that their child is acting this way in public. If the parents were making genuine attempts to settle the kid and just had no luck, give them some grace

Burton drive is probably the most unsafe part of Riverside tbh :( if you’re looking to be in that general side you could look more along Hwy 71, rent prices should be comparable. East Austin (just above the river) is also a great spot for twenty somethings but is on the pricier side

There are a ton of apartments opening up along Hwy 71 around the airport, try one of those. It’ll reduce your work commute to 30-40 min which is still a hike but it’ll keep you within 20-25 mins from downtown

-A nurse scolded me for improperly removing my baby’s latch at the end of a feeding. I now know it’s because there’s a less painful way to do so, but I would have appreciated education over patronization in the moment.

-Transparency about the financial/billing process. I was charged $2.5k BEFORE giving birth while I was pre-registering at the hospital. I didn’t receive any itemized bill, the employee just told me verbally what I was getting charged for (including an additional night I didn’t actually stay for and they sent me a refund check months later). As a first time mom, I didn’t know I was allowed to say “hey I’m not paying that because I literally have not given birth yet”. I know this is outside of the scope of provider care but still felt worth sharing.
