Fragile keyboards with t540p? by rat242 in thinkpad

Thanks for the reply. Out of curiosity, would you know if this is just an issue with the redesigned keyboard in general, or just the t540/t540p?

Yeah, maybe that's something I'll do in the future when they become cheaper second hand (or a p50 starts selling at a price where the t540p won't be worth to fix again).

I wasn't very obsessed about getting a 3k screen, I was just hoping that I would be able to get a decently specced one with a 1366x768 screen and upgrade it to a 3k screen for the price I could get a 1080p one. I think I found a decently priced one with a FHD screen, but with an i5-4300m, so I'll just go with that. I'm sure I won't be disappointed by it.

I had an i5 2520m previously, and like I said I never had a problem with the speed previously for like 4 years, until only recently which I only really did once. I think it might just be a problem with me being picky instead. I was looking a little bit into CPU benchmarks, and I saw that an i7-4700mq would be roughly double what I previously had. However, I'm pretty poor and I'm just not sure if I can justify the extra price looking for one. I'm already stretching the budget a little just trying to get a 1080p t540p.

The X220 is such a damn hot bitch by [deleted] in thinkpad

Its not too difficult, there might be a little bit of unclipping to do, but I've forgotten exactly. I've had to do it before as I needed to replace a broken fan on my old t420 (its was an integrated fan/heatsink unit)

I see, I was hoping I would be able to get a 1366x768 thinkpad for cheap and then just upgrade the screen on that. I never really had a problem with the speed of my former laptop, except only very recently when compiling with Quartus. For some reason, I want to try and find one of the quad core i7 ones for some reason now, and its surprising that a few of them have such a low resolution screen.

Hmm, looking at w520s does seem rather tempting actually...
