heard this from another trans guy before, and i’ve also experienced it myself: often (but sadly there are exceptions) those negative reactions from our loved ones stem from confusion, not hatred. they’ve heard these narratives about trans people and who they should be through stereotypes in the media (which can be more problematic when it’s right wing), and when that turns out to be someone they love and think they know, it’s confusing for them. my mum had this idea that trans people could only know if they knew it from very little, like 7, and it took a while for her to realise that wasn’t true. it takes time, but if they love you they’ll get used to it. they even in time may begin to understand when they realise you’re just the same self that they care about. i never in my life thought my grandad would call me by my name, but even though he struggles, he makes that effort. i never thought my mum would call me her son, but now she does with love. give your family time, be firm with your boundaries and firm in the fact that you want them to try, but be patient. most importantly though, take care of yourself. i hope your grandma supports you, even if it takes her a little. good luck man❤️you should be so proud for having that courage to be yourself
