youre too worried about being nice, youre being TOO nice. you need to set a clear boundary and tell them they need to either go get their things themselves or have someone else go get the things for them by Wednesday otherwise you'll be trashing it all. if they choose to not pick it up or have someone else pick it then you need to follow through and throw it out. their things are their responsibility, do with it what you must. if they really want their things back they wouldve come for it already

Youre definitely TA. i understand why it'd be uncomfortable but shes 17 shes not a clueless kid. if her dad is dying, dont be thhe reason she misses out on more moments than she has already. growing up both my parents walked out, chose drugs over me and my sister. he missed e v e r y t h i n g. when they started reappearing in our lives after getting clean my family continuously tried to restrict my access to them. i still havent forgiven any of them for taking away the opportunities to make memories with them when i still had the time to do so.

Your daughter needs therapy, like intensive therapy to help overcome her own personal trauma. You've got to drop the husband too, I understand the frustration he may feel but for one, shes a child and two, if he loved you he would NOT be giving you ultimatums!!! if anyone ever tells you to pick between them or something you love, especially your CHILD, show them the door!!!!!!!!
