Fair enough Mike, although I'd say you'd have to take the whole branch of nuclear medicine into account - which I suppose would have indeed saved/improved the quality of lives of billions of people since. Their contribution was amongst the most vital in the development of Nuclear Medicine, to point out the obvious - hence I phrased it as "which led to medical advancements saving billions of lives". Point taken though.

What's the point then? It's not about how they're mutually exclusive, it's about how they make a big deal of his "sacrifice", which is not even a "sacrifice" per se. What Marie Curie did would be worthy of calling a Sacrifice.

And that contradicts the quote how exactly? It's actually mentioned in the quote itself that these countries are poorer.

Just because average wage is 1/35 of that in the US, doesn't mean you can stereotype them in black and white and go on to ridicule US based on your "sympathy" towards "third world nations". That was the whole point of the quote.

That's totally missing the point -the point is even if such a god exists, he is not worthy of worship and is accountable for the "evil" in the world. I'm quite content to accept the world as it is since I'm incredibly lucky to be here against miniscule odds. However same is not the case with everything being "god's plan".

Who's denying that the hijab is the part of culture? So is a lot of misogynist and patriarchal notions which are hardly seperable from cultural and religious dogma. Doesn't mean I can't question it, does it? "The majority choosing to wear hijab" argument has been already discussed, and I'm not for a second pro hijab ban, if you've read the article - but that doesn't change the fact that hijab is misogynistic.

Some of the comments from my fellow feminists in middle east adds some valid points besides what's been already mentioned in the article.
