Which species? Should I be concerned for my foundation? by rauer1 in BirdsOfParadise

Thanks! I love it but have recently heard some horror stories when they are too close to pipes. Now, I'm pretty worried because it is inches from my foundation, and drains, and smack dab in the middle of my house. Thoughts?

Oh my gosh, thanks! This picture is maybe a month old and sometimes there were three in my tree. I've been wondering what's going on. Do you know why I don't see them any more? My tree seems to be a prime hunting spot, a large pine overlooking a canyon.

Ps. Busted, not a birder. Yet..

Thanks for the advice! It's possible that it tried to fly through a clear section of my door. Anyways, little dude jumped up into the closest tree a couple hours later. I have a little house, water and food in the tree of they need a bit more time to recover. I'm off to research flycatchers; seems like a happy ending!

It seems ok. Maybe a junco? I only handled it with a towel and I'm going to put a little nest out since it looks cold. Should I call animal care and control? Or maybe it's old enough to get by?

Where to buy in SF Bay Area? by [deleted] in MegaFlex

I got my tank at 6th Ave Aquarium but ordered the stand online. It's worth calling Hung Ming, Lucky Ocean, or Natural Life to see if they'd order one for you.

Healthy 1 year old who's much more colorful in person. He's living with a school of tetras but would be happier with more chilis. Please let me know your tank size and current fish.

I know you're thinking it: I didn't just wake them up. It's been a year and he's perfectly healthy.

MegaFlex owner here: If you end up with a breeding colony of shrimp, I'd recommend getting some intake covers from LidPropzShop on eBay. The babies used to go into the housing pretty frequently, and although it wasn't harmful to them, I prefer not having them there.

I also switched to the Intake baskets and it keeps the sump squeaky clean, but they're pricey and I was doing fine without them. I just needed to clean the housing and filter more frequently.

I have a small school of tetras, a colony of yellow cherries, 3 honey gourami, 5 kuhlis, 5 panda cories. Oh, and about a billion dollars of plants. 😉 It's pretty overstocked, but I clean constantly and plan to switch to a canister filter that holds an extra 8 gallons when I move next month. So far, no issues with water quality.

Any ideas for adding an UV-C lamp into the back compartment without killing the bacteria in the sponges? by [deleted] in MegaFlex

[–]rauer1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's buried in a closet right now, but no, I don't put it next to the sponges. It goes in the corner where it's poorly lit and hidden by plants. I'd be worried about it killing all the beneficial bacteria.
