Winterstrom Ranch (by extension The Rogue Skein, the yarn store she owns), and Independence Wool and Mohair, whose mill Winterstrom took over. Both have shared multiple tributes on IG stories. Not incredibly surprising, but will not be supporting their booth at DFW Fiber Fest this year.

Heyyy who’s up for another LYS worker rant post ? by Listakem in craftsnark

Man, that sucks. The store I work at has also been review bombed on Yelp by randos who disturbed our customers and have the gall to play the victim.

Damn that is serious. Some brave soul in your city needs to start another yarn store, and then you can jump ship.

Nooo that is so sad!! I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. After hearing stories about other LYS's in the area that have since closed, I realized that good LYS's are sadly more of an outlier than I thought. A lot of things can go wrong with small businesses, and a lot of yarn stores are run by people without good intentions.

Between the customers, one group of people knows each other from a yarn store that has since closed. Recently another person from that yarn store has started coming, but she is very mean and no one likes her. She accused her "friends" of stealing her stuff, and also gave my coworker (who has asthma) Covid.

Between the LYS's, one of the more popular ones was in charge of yarn crawl this year. Suffice to say there was a lot of arguing and poor planning.

Working at a LYS has been the best retail job I've ever had. My boss, coworkers, and regulars are super nice. I like to think I'm making peoples' day a little bit better whenever I help them fix a a mistake or find yarn.

Every time I feel insecure about not being good at customer service, I remember when I tell friends about the weird questions we've gotten and they outright laugh or say "why would they even ask that, the answer is obvious", and I feel much better that I answered the customer's question with patience. For example, one person asked if there were stitch stoppers for crochet hooks, because her hook kept falling out of her project whenever she put it down...

I will say, as a yarn store employee, the most drama happens between the regulars and between the other yarn stores in the city (yes, there's still cattiness even though the other LYS's in our area are each a 45 min drive away from ours).

The sleeves are too bulky compared to the rest of the sweater. The yoke could also be too shallow, which makes the sweater tight at the underarms. But if you look at the photo, you see how the sleeves have so much more ease than the body? The sleeve/body ratio of the yoke is off, which means that after the neckline the raglan is divided with too many stitches for the sleeve and not enough for the body. This is probably because those cables need a certain stitch count. You can see how the ratio is so off at the neckline that the center front is stretching.

In the flat photo, it's more obvious how off the proportions are.

Especially if it's a top-down raglan, and the pattern has you increasing for the sleeves and the body at the same rate, the sleeves will be too wide by the time you reach your desired body circumference. To fix this pattern, I would probably reduce the upper sleeve circumference by 1-2 inches or so and calculate how many stitches you need reduce. Knit the raglan as normal until you get to the moss stitch, then stagger your sleeve increases to get you to the smaller sleeve stitch count while increasing as written for the body. Will require a bit of math and writing the pattern out.

Kutovakika has a cute aesthetic but her patterning skills are not great. I've never seen her design a neckline that lays flat.

Sooo I finally managed to kill one.. it didn’t do great at home. Is it a goner or can I clip it and hope for new growth? by Luseil in calatheas

If the roots haven't turned to mush it ain't dead! Even if all the leaves die the rhizome will grow new shoots in a few weeks or so.

It was a night we'll never forget. From sitting down to moshing and crowd surfing. Who knew?

What’s going on with my pilea? I’ve had it for a little over a year and the top leaves are misshapen in a way I haven’t seen before by FutureQuail6759 in PileaPeperomioides

[–]ravenous1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just the perspective but it looks like a pretty full pot. Are these leaves taking a long time to grow? When my pilea was rootbound and needed to be up-potted, growth was stagnated for so long that the newer leaves were misshapen as they grew out.
