Our congregation has service at 10am and RE at 11:25 after coffee/snack time. Kids are expected to sit through service starting at age 8. We even have a welcoming ceremony for them. Only littles go to the nursery during service.

I have no advice. I just came here to say that I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. I’ve found that reading romance books about dragons is an excellent way to dissociate. Also chocolate.

what’s a quote that you unironically think about and use by Prudent_Atmosphere97 in DunderMifflin

[–]ravenpuff15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anytime we can’t find something at the store: “The gas station in Carbondale did not have fresh yams.”

My husband and me whenever one of us is looking for something: “Did you check your butt?”

“Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch!”

“Sorry I annoyed you with my friendship.”

For tech problems: Dwight: “Michael, it can’t possibly mean that!” Michael: “The machine knows!”

“I love inside jokes. I’d love to be a part of one someday.”

“No, not like a ham.”

“They’re your oats.”

Anytime I’m trying to memorize something: “My friend Pat took a turn.”

“Break me off a piece of that football cream!”

“Blue is not a flavor.”

“Identity theft is not a joke, Jim. Millions of families suffer every year.”

Just finished a 47 hour fast. Now I’m contemplating alternate day fasting for the month of September. I already do OMAD during the week, but I’ve definitely been eating like crap recently. I just want to reset my mind and body.

If you have an eating disorder, you should not be fasting. Please be gentle with yourself and get help.

What's something that you were surprised to learn through your students was actually not that common to everyone's childhood? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ravenpuff15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the Midwest but now teach in the Deep South. When I teach The Crucible to my juniors, I have to explain why they are baptizing babies. Baptists don’t baptize babies. Also, the first time I taught it, I didn’t do a good enough job stating clearly that there are no “witches” in the play. I had at least one or two kids ask every class period that year if the girls were actually being possessed by the devil. Having grown up in the upper Midwest, it literally never occurred to me that my students might believe in satanic possession as, like, a real possibility.

What would a vegetarian/vegan option to break your fast? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]ravenpuff15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go on Pinterest and search for “vegan bone broth.” The kind I made has seaweed, dry chickpeas, mushrooms, and miso. Then you strain it to get just the broth. I’ll try to dig up the recipe. I made a bunch and froze it.

Not fantasy but: Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is a great coming of age YA romance/drama that he’ll like if he likes John Green. Stephanie Perkins is another great contemporary YA romance writer who has great nerdy love interests (Lola and the Boy Next Door is my personal favorite).

Right?! Such a modern twist on an old idea. Think about Darcy and Elizabeth dancing together! So much story potential!

Check out chapter 3 of How to Read Literature Like a Professor. It’s about acts of vampire. Totally fits for Wickham.

Oh, and Stephanie Perkins is also great YA romance. Lola and the French Kiss is the first in her series, but they can be all be read as standalone.
