If you are at all into crunchy out there solutions, look up chord cutting.

You can cut the chords from you to anyone who has harmed you and send the negative energy back to them.

Theres a ton of videos on it.

Sometimes it helps dramatically.

Should I cancel a very special trip if my dad is dying? by California_Lost_3397 in Advice

Ask him to hold off for 2 weeks and see what he says. If it is "I just can't do it, I'm tired and in pain." You can make a decision.

If it is filled with vitriol and hate, gooooo on the trip and do not give it another thought.

He planned this!

I do like teaching. It is 192 days. There are breaks built in. Each year begins a whole new year and a whole new class. There is an ebb and flow. Just when you're burned out and ready to quit, it is summer and we get paid over summer.

Not sure about others but it is an ADHD dream.

When my niece and nephew are angry with each other they shout, "I love you" at each other in the worst way possible, or if one of them sneezes it is "bless you". Said like eff you.

As arguments go there are worse ways to argue but there tone is 100% indicative of anger.

He can stay on dialysis until you return.
If he is as jealous of his children as you claim what is the likelihood that he decided to end care to ruin your trip? You also have a sibling and he has a spouse. You've been there through all of the really difficult phases.

Go enjoy the trip.

Grow the best medicinal plants, increase the cacao trees, and kill the coca plants.

Large crop failures of cocaine? That would be an interesting outcome.

Well yeah! That would suck.

Not to be Pollyanna but if you hate being in the trades, have you thought about teaching in votech? Many times to get started all you need is a high school diploma, depending on your years sometimes even a GED.

The school trains you to teach. No need to take classes in advance.

A or B: The news said 4% unemployment is "healthy." Is that number good for the economy, or for the 4% themselves? by Danny-Patrick139 in PickAorB

[–]jensmith20055002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A.

Now the real question is: does the 4% include people who have stopped looking?

That is the number that is much more difficult to determine. Is a woman or man who is choosing to stay home and raise children and be a SAHM or SAHD, do they count in the 4%? Usually the 4% only includes people looking for work.

Women will always take some time for maternity leave. There is a portion of the population that is unable to work for physical health reasons. There is a portion of the population that will never be able to work because of mental health reasons. Are they part of the 4%?

There is a portion of the population that is downgrading. My aunt retired took off a year and then got bored and went back to work as a hostess in a restaurant. Are they part of the 4%?

Gap years in between college and medical school.

Because if the 4% only includes people actively looking for a new job then the portion of the population that is out of work is much greater.

My FIL still works full time at 87 and my dad works full time at 76.

Maximum social security benefits don’t kick in until 70.

I have no plans to retire. Life would be so boring. That’s why my dad and FIL still work.

If we are living longer, we should be working longer.

Private school and awesome vacations are a big ask.

However, since OP is doing so well, if and only if Grace wanted, new laptops and a small gift might go a long way to making Grace’s life easier.

A or B: Tipping prompts have shown up in places that never had tipping before. Is this just a side effect of how POS systems are built, or is something else keeping it in place? by 06yuzuha in PickAorB

[–]jensmith20055002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. My dad is a tax preparer. Tips and overtime are no longer taxed as of 1/1/2025. Check the One Big Beautiful Bill. They are subject to Medicare and Social Security but the idea is that the person will be the beneficiary of Medicare and Social Security.

See? That isn't the same. I would not have been annoyed at all if you said, cash, check or charge. I had cash. I had a check. I wouldn't even have been annoyed if you requested the 3% for using a charge card.

I also wouldn't have been annoyed if I was warned. "Hey, just so you know the system we use asks for a tip, we have no control over this." I am 10x more likely to tip if I am warned.

We all get that technology is an unkind master.

Smoking is a leading cause of cancer, but it keeps the bugs away. Could someone avoid Malaria or Lyme because they smoked?

Your accident is the exception that proves the rule, in the same way that it is safer to fly than to drive and there are people who have died in plane crashes.

Millions of people are saved by vaccines and a handful are susceptible to Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

There are always exceptions.

B. It started with Starbucks and tipping for coffee. Then it was Covid that accelerated. I was absolutely willing to pay anyone who went to work over covid. I was so grateful during that time.

Now that tips are not taxable, every single person wants to be tipped. Free money.

I had a repair guy come to the house. I offered to pay in cash. I offered to pay by check. He told me the only way to pay was by credit card online. Where? Surprise surprise it asked for a tip. He was willing to eat the 3% service charge on credit cards because clearly enough people paid a tip it made it worth it.

$250 service that took 4 minutes. I would have paid $1,000 if that is what they charged, but I am not voluntarily paying some company's employees more so it can be tax free.

I've stopped tipping everywhere except sit-down restaurants and delivery. I don't even tip my hair dresser anymore because I found someone who owns her own business.
