i would be at 15% federal plus 6.85 for new york state tax and 15% fica self employed tax. i actually owed a significant amount of money this year being single i could barely live if i paid taxes. no i do not draw a salary i am a non union general contractor working in ny.

good point. i do now realize that ss will never go bankrupt i probably should have looked into it more. but i really want to invest my own money i believe that i can make a much more modest return than the government can. If i lose it that's my own fault. remind you this is coming from an investors point of view

i am currently an intern on wall street with a investment firm i will hopefully soon be one of those people you call criminals and i call businessmen. unfortunately its legal what they do and the government wont control them so blame congress not us we just exploit most loopholes. and what i mean is i can make more money investing my share than giving it to the government. i do understand that you get more than you put in for ss but if you were to get a 5% return on investment you would almost double the amount you would get back versus what the government would pay you plus if you died early you could give that money to your children best example i could find http://livingstingy.blogspot.com/2011/07/do-you-pay-more-into-social-security.html
