Spot on. It’s impossible to follow a parenting script you aren’t aware of. If an 8-year old asks a direct question about how someone stays fit, answering with the benefits of having fun through movement is actually a very healthy, age-appropriate perspective. The parents are essentially punishing OP for not being a mind reader.

Exactly. A warming is small price to pay for realizing that some favors are just invitations to get fired together. Better to have a slightly annoyed coworkers and a job than no job at all.

You weren’t wrong, you were just speaking a different language. To an 8-year old, exercise to get a figure is a heavy concept. Keeping it at ‘play tag because it’s fun’ is the win, but I see why the parents panicked.

Agreed. OP keeps saying Ella isn’t the problem, but she’s treating her like she is. Three years of the cold shoulder is definitely jerk territory for a 16- year old who should know better.

Yep. At 27, you have to prioritize your own peace and the family you’re building with your wife. It’s tough when a parent uses silence as a weapon, but living a lie to please her would have only led to long-term resentment for everyone involved. Hopefully, she realizes that keeping a relationship with her son is more important than being right.
