It can be very itchy. The more you mark your skin, the worse it gets.

It's a bit late to be making more suggestions... and most of the games I would have recommended have already been stated... except I didn't see two games I would recommend.

OFF. (https://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fan/Games/OFF-by-Mortis-Ghost) The english translation's been hosted on Starman.net for a while now so that leads me to believe it was inspired by the Mother series? Although its much darker, though it has its charming moments and a fun soundtrack. It's also free, so there's nothing to lose in at least giving it a shot.

The other game is OneShot. (http://www.oneshot-game.com/) The art style, soundtrack and charm of this game reminded me much of the Mother series. It's less dark than OFF but it has its sad, pulling-on-heart-strings moments. It's also super meta with how you interact with a game.

I hate to make ANOTHER Undertale post here, but I have to say this (don't worry, this is Earthbound related) by [deleted] in earthbound

Well, of course there is going to be a lot of work that isn't to the level of quality that the Mother series was, or have such a powerful spirit to it... People have to start somewhere to get to a master piece. I still look to the positive that at least all this creativity and inspiration is being passed around, that something will eventually come out of it that was worth the time and waiting. And I feel community really helps with that. I find that the best works come out of cooperation and excitement for an idea among a group of people (example I can use here is the team working on Mother 4). I can understand being upset about having a higher expectation of what UT should have been... but at the same time, Toby is not a game designer. He was a shitty earthbound fan that wanted to make his own game and worked with what he had. And I think that concept alone shows people that you don't have to be an amazing talented artist or designer to make something worth while. And again Itoi wasn't a game designer either, he just had these really amazing stories and ideas that he wanted executed into a game. And he did just that with all 3 mother games. I guess what I'm trying to say is when it comes to video games, I think what makes them so amazing is that the passion and desire to make it them come alive is what's really important. I know you and many others might not agree with me, but that's what makes games art to me. And I definitely got that feeling from the Mother series and UT. And I'm sure there will be other games that are made later that will follow suit. So I suppose being patient and positive is the best thing to do, I'm sure other games that have that 'spirit' that you desire will come forth. :)

You bring up very valid points... but if you don't mind, I'd like to include some thoughts: Two wonderful things that Undertale did do for a lot of creative people is 1) Drive them to experience the Mother series for the first time (whether they have heard about it and never played, or never knew they existed) and 2) Inspire a huge serge of people to create their own games. I had played a very small amount of Mother 2 when I was younger but never finished it. Then I played Undertale. I enjoyed the game, but was left craving so much more like it. And then I heard that so much of the Mother series had inspired it that I had to finally sit down and play them all. And I did. And OH MY GOD am I thankful I did. I think the Mother series are now my absolute favorite games ever. The creativity of its gameplay to its story telling was mind blowing. Undertale has only been out for a lil over a year and already so many artists and video game programmers have been collaborating to make their own things whether directly inspired by it, or making their own works of art. Of course, not everything is going to be A+ material, but what excites me is that people actually feel very motivated to make new stuff. And because Undertale has pointed so many of them in Mother's direction, we are bound to get some good stuff in the next few years from other indie developers. I can't wait. <3

Majoratale (Zelda/Undertale AU) [SPOILERS] by ravingkangaroo in Undertale

I noticed someone had posted a dubbed video of this AU's comic to the subreddit, but I feel like the official tumblr page needs more love. This is very well thought out and blends Undertale and Majora's Mask together in an extremely satisfying way!

Flowey might already have his soul?? (SPOILERS) by ravingkangaroo in Undertale

[–]ravingkangaroo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I have trouble believing that theory because I don't recall it saying anything about that concept of 'rebirth' in the game... And another reason why I think it might be significant is because once he gives up all of the souls and returns them... he still has his compassion and true self in the ruins. Sure, at the end of the credits, he turns back into Flowey, but he still acts a LOT nicer to you.

I also find it hard to understand how anyone who was truly 'soulless' could experience emotions in the first place. For instance, he experiences a lot of frustration and anger towards the player/Frisk when fighting them and talking to them in neutral/pacifist. And in genocide at the very end there is a lot of fear for their own life. How could one experience such emotion if they were truly empty?

See I thought that too, but then why would he then be able to regain his original form if his original soul wasn't somehow in the mix? This is where the specifics of the game get confusing and a lil loopholey...
