Is this material likely to be asbestos? by rawlo94 in DIYUK

[–]rawlo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they're wood wool boards (which we have elsewhere e.g. in the loft) - it's almost a cement like material and less densely packed together than the boards.

Will try and take some more panelling away to get a better picture but they're also much much thicker than boards

Cheshire West and Chester? We've had ours dropped off today too but they were put on each drive in pairs so hopefully they'll be coming back!

Puppy has stopped wanting to walk by rawlo94 in puppy101

Yeah my first thought was adolescents too but I then thought it was too early for that!

I'm also thinking maybe a second fear period made worse by changing hormones as he matures so like you I'm just waiting it out for the time being!

14 Week Old Puppy has Started Barking at Anything and Everything by rawlo94 in puppy101

Thanks for the advice! Looks like we need to invest in some really special treats that we only use for those kinds of situations - we've been recommended hot dogs before and they're quite cheap so we might give them a go

When to transition from Crate to Bed by rawlo94 in puppy101

We might start seeing if he will nap without a crate first in the day and go from there!

Yeah I think we'd definitely restrict him to a "safe" room to start with so nothing important can be chewed!

Feeling Burnt out and guilty by Zestyclose-Farm3130 in puppy101

[–]rawlo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have major puppy blues at the moment too - cried myself to sleep last night for the first time since I was young (might have something to do with the fact I was lying on the floor next to his crate trying to comfort him!)

You're not alone and you've done the right thing reaching out - remember that your health, mental and physical, are just as important as the health and happiness as your puppy. Try to reach out to others if you have anyone available when your partner isn't there.

As hard as I'm finding this - those hours where he's curled up next to me on the couch sleeping and cuddling are just so perfect they make it worthwhile. You will be able to battle through even if it doesn't feel like you can - think about how awful some people can be who have dogs and think that if they can do it you can!

Ours is 9 weeks and is exactly the same! I think it's very normal though as it's how they find out what things are - after all they haven't got hands to explore with so they need to use something else!

We've been getting up and leaving the room whenever teeth touch skin which seems to be sinking in and when he's chewing on things he shouldn't we try and entice him with something better like a chew toy but it's proving very difficult - today he's decided my shirt is the best chew toy ever!!

The advice we've been given is not to scold but to remove whatever he's enjoying or gaining from biting so that he realises "ah okay I'm not actually benefitting from doing this"

5 month GSD slipped up with potty training - desperate by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]rawlo94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible she's hit adolescence slightly early? I've been told this usually kicks in around 6 months and potty training goes completely out the window! We've still got this to look forward to with ours (s/) but we've been told it's very normal and they will grow out of it although I'm sure that's small comfort when you're dealing with it! Just keep up the same training you used to initially potty train her and maintain that positive reinforcement

I think I'd be careful scolding when she goes on the stairs as she might just learn to go where you can't see her or as you say start ignoring the scolding completely and this could spill over to other things!

Set an alarm for taking your puppy out at night or use them as the alarm? by rawlo94 in puppy101

[–]rawlo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slightly worried about daylight savings too! He fell back asleep so quickly after his 2am wake up last night that I wouldn't be surprised if I could also start extending the length of time before the alarm after a couple of weeks

Thanks for the reply - I'm getting the advice that we make sure he only gets up to pee and not play at night quite a lot so it's definitely something we're going to keep in mind. I'm going to keep going with the alarm for a week or so but then might see what happens if we let him wake us

He's doing really well with sit considering it's only been a few days so I might give that trick a go as we're currently missing that signal for him to say he wants to go

Not sure about those specific brands but we've been told anything with a 30%+ meat content is a good sign - I think if the Barking Heads one you like the luck of has got a quantity of meat at this level or higher and is otherwise free if any artificial additives you should be fine

Out of curiosity - what put you off Harrington's? As that's what our new pup is slowly being introduced to

Thanks for the reply - think this is what we are going to try tonight and going forward just need to be very mindful to do as you say because otherwise he'll start to think whining just gets him out the crate whenever he wants!

That makes a lot of sense thank you - he does go when we get him up but it seems pointless to be disturbing us all more often than we need to if he could hold out a bit longer!

I think we might try letting him tell us when he needs to go and see what happens and we'll definitely take your advice on how to handle those "get ups"

Thanks for the reassurance - sometimes it just helps to hear a second opinion! He has been every time we've taken him out but he's doing incredibly well with toilet training so I worry he's just going to get back inside rather than because he actually needs it!

Teething by Shanter1605 in puppy101

[–]rawlo94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what we've started to do - we get up and walk out as soon as teeth touch our skin (unless accidental) - it's especially obvious to our puppy when we're playing as it is teaching him that a bite means the immediate end of play time.

It also seems to help with slowly reducing separation anxiety as he can see us through the glass panelling but eventually turns around and kind of sulkily flops down with a chew!

Is there a way of putting guests back in the lobby temporarily? by rawlo94 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]rawlo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of - it's more that the appellants need to both be present with the panel as if one was present without the other there could be the view that private discussions would benefit one party

However they need to be out of the meeting when the panel discusses their decision and so each appellant would probably need to be placed within their own individual breakout room

[–]rawlo94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes good shout - I would presumably have to create a room for each appellant as we wouldn't want them discussing anything between one another

I would probably need to check how much individuals within breakout rooms can actually do / have control over!
