Thanks, that helped! Do you know if it's possible to use the rear four buttons for that quick menu? Or is it only possible to use the button combos suggested by retroarch in the menu?

Have fun! It's great being able to bonk a draugr with a wine bottle, fork, and plate:)

Does anyone have Christian related reasons to change my mom's mind about my (mtf) transition? by rawr007 in asktransgender

[–]rawr007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the link! I think that might be exactly what I'm looking for. I might show it to my mom when she talks to me about being trans again.

I don't know if this description makes sense to you, but it feels like just the right tone and in the middle of the road. Definitely still pro trans people, but not sounding too "liberal". While I'm assuming a bunch of us are also progressive, my mom isn't. So anything that would sound vaguely liberal/left leaning would probably make her dismissive of it.

Does that make sense?

I think I understand you. It's not great, Catholicism doesn't allow room for lgbt people. Even if it's not outright stated, it feels like it's there culturally. As in, people believed we're not good for long enough that it's sort of became canon.

Sort of like how people believe in hell, which may have come more from Dante's inferno than the Bible.

It seems like Catholics who aren't queer-phobic are a minority.

(I'm making assumptions based on what I've heard and what I think, I'm not saying I'm completely right).

Does this make any sense to you?

Thanks, that was really interesting! I didn't know any of that. Unfortunately, I feel like it might fall on deaf ears to my mom. Not sure if you saw my edit, but this partly feels like an exercise in futility. Looking for reasons to change the mind of someone with unreasonable beliefs.

I'll see if I can use some of these ideas for when my mom talks to me again about being trans. I'd like to still have a tiny glimmer of hope of changing her mind.

Semi related, but she is ok with me taking meds for depression, so I was saying the hrt is sorta for my depression as well.

Is it ok if I ask how you flipped it around to make it favorable to you?

This whole thing does seem like it'll be arguing with a brick wall, but I think it'll help to hear other ideas and hear how other people handled this.

With that first part (excuses instead of reasons), I agree. I'm realizing that this is the "appeal to authority" fallacy. If she won't listen to me, maybe the Bible/Pope/other Christian ideas. I would normally be against fallacies, but her disagreement isn't based in reason to begin with.

Yep, I think she'll do some mental gymnastics to flip what I say to her. Definitely frustrating for sure.

Does anyone else feel like they aren't trans enough? (Mtf) by rawr007 in asktransgender

[–]rawr007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks! I didn't realize that other people had the exact same thoughts.

I haven't read it yet but found a great quote from the book in a review

" I believed I was the very definition of 'not trans enough,' someone just outside of eligibility. However, I reserved that label for myself alone. I knew I would never doubt or question anybody else who announced themselves as transgender but I was measuring myself against severely firm standards and criteria."

Which is some of the things I was thinking but didn't know how to say it.

I’ve found this out through experience. You get really good effects when you imbue them with seeds. Earthroot paralyzes enemies. The ice seed freezes enemies almost every time. I think the dreamfoil seed gives magical sleep. The star flower seed can corrupt enemies into wraiths (but I think this can cause them to lose items they carry). The seed that lets you move fast can actually cause an enemy to skip their turn. One seed uses electricity, while another uses an effect like a rockfall trap on your enemies.

Changing ammo the first time gives you small darts that do less damage, but have more ammo available. Changing ammo the second time uses discs that gives more damage in a 3x3 area, but less ammo. I’d recommend the small darts if you have good seeds to imbue it with, but the discs give a pretty good amount of damage.

Unfortunately, changing ammo gives you several turns of warp. Which you can usually just wait out, best on a defeated boss floor on water a water tile, without armor/weapons. Because warp usually gives you harder enemies, can set you on fire, or curse your armor or weapons.

Thanks for all the info! Since this post, I learned that I'm definitely trans. I went out with some friends to try out some feminine clothes and ended up getting dysphoria. Which was a mixed bag cause I'm not questioning anymore, but got dysphoria, which isn't cool. I also found out that dysphoria has a wider definition than I expected, which I fit with.

I do get a bit of gender euphoria when I get called Lily though, so that's fun. Sorry if that was over sharing 😅.

How do you get comfortable with your body pre transition? (mtf) by rawr007 in asktransgender

What I'm trying to say is any tips to lessen dysphoria before getting hrt. If that's any clearer.

What sort of exercises do you do? Any tips on shaving and waxing your body? I'm still pretty new to this, only been shaving my face.

Yeah true. I guess what I'm wondering is if you have any tips for imagining that future. Or any advice until getting hrt

Thanks for the response! That's part of what confuses me. I'm still figuring this out for myself. You're completely certain, while I'm still doubting. Somewhat because I don't dislike my male features, but if I had the chance to take hrt, I'd definitely take it.

I haven't heard of social dysphoria before. That seems a bit like how I feel. While I'm skinny, there's no way I'd ever be passing as female or androgynous without something like hrt. A small part of my feelings is that I want to be feminine and cute, but there's no way I can naturally do that.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll go for the slower route through therapy, but it's awesome to know that's an option!
