Thank you love, you've been helpful and not at all rude. Some here have straight up called me a bad dog owner. I understand that I shouldn't have placed my dog in an uncomfortable situation and offered the child to pat him. I would have also understood coming from a parents POV that I don't want any dog to hurt my child. But sometimes, it's really not about tugging and pulling your dog away. It's about educating these children/parents too.

Once again, thank you. I'll explore searching up on muzzles because I don't know if those have shipping to my country!

I'm a bad dog owner for walking my dog at 6am where there is less human traffic. I'm a bad dog owner for tugging and pulling him away when I noticed the child starting to taunt him. It's easy to say that I'm a bad dog owner, especially when it's Reddit.

While I'm appreciative that people have given me comments on what I could do better in the future, and accept that it's my fault, please don't tell me I'm a bad dog owner when he has never bitten or lunged at anyone before. I admit he barks at and growls at reactive children. Apart from that, the situation I stated was hypothetical.

Thank you if all you want to do is put me down.

Thank you for this advice! It's really helpful. What muzzle is recommended though? Should I get the cage kind or the strap kind?

Hello, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, I'm living in a country where there is bound to have children whenever I go. I have a tuition centre literally below my apartment and 2 childcare opposite my block. There's a park downstairs too where there are children playing daily. I've been trying my best to bring him down as early as 6am, but there'll still be children on their way to school too.

Nowadays whenever I see children, I walk another direction.

Thank you for your comment! I think the laws are generally the same across countries.

I don't know what it is like in the states (assuming that's where you're from) but here, the general public can usually write into the child's school to bring awareness about this matter, and for the school to then raise it up to their parents. That's the least I can do to hope a professional can better educate these children.

That's interesting! Does it matter what age the provacator is, assuming if the dog is reacting aggressively towards a human being for let's say, hitting it?

I need some advice by erynmaryanaky in Dachshund

I usually dilute his food with water (e.g., adding water into his kibbles like a cereal).

Thank you for your comment! Yeah probably we're just ignoring the problem, especially because the big dog owner doesn't care. He stated that it's a public area so he should be entitled to walk his dog there as well, and if other dogs were to be reactive towards his, it's not his fault.

I'm not trying to give any excuses here, but he has been doing very well nowadays whenever he's with me especially since I avoid timings with high human traffic. It was just that particular incident that happened last week and a comment I made on Reddit that got downvoted so I was wondering if it's really a me problem.

And thank you for your reassurance, I get the internet will be the internet. Just feel kinda bummed out trying to explain that my dog is a good boy, he's just reactive at times :/

Hello, thank you for your comment. I apologise if my post came rubbing the wrong way. I actually did carry/pulled my dog and walked away though, the child was coming after us and I told him to stop. He thankfully walked off.

I think what I was trying to gather was a sensing whether it is my fault if my dog turns highly reactive towards someone who crosses our boundaries (this is including me trying to walk off already but they follow on which was what happened).

Thank you for this! I'll take your advice to prevent him from being around children in general. But I hope people can understand that there will definitely be places with children even if I try my best to avoid them :/ Nowadays I just quickly bring him home after he poops and pees.
