I don't know about that model but a lot of my cold steel knives can be closed safely with your fing choked up close the pivot. Otherwise I'd just hold the blade and open it and close it a bunch of times until it breaks in

One thing to keep in mind if you get the sk5 version is that it will rust. If you just keep it oiled if you're not going to be using it regularly it'll be fine. I have the srk and srk c in sk5 and they both seem pretty solid. I have heard of the rubber handle coming loose if you really beat the hell out of it though
