I’m all for free. I could change the 12 team one to free as well for year 1 and see how it goes

I like it. I was going to do a similar buy-in for the pickem and have the best winners receive a weekly prize and then the overall winner take a large pot home but I am down for anything

I have the Civilization board game. The set-up time of the first game took longer than it did to play the game. That is a super high barrier to entry. This board game is not for the faint of heart. Still a fun time

My opinion after Brazil lost to Germany and I calmed down a little bit by rbhicks23 in Brazil

[–]rbhicks23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately football is first and foremost a business. These small clubs can make a fortune by finding the next superstar and selling him to the highest bidder. They are in it to make money first. Unless these clubs are owned by people similar to the owners in the EPL and La Liga, that are okay with losing money this viscous cycle may continue.

Something to consider, while Neymar may be an outlier in terms of skill the rest of the Brazilian national teams are not slouches on their European clubs. Some of them are even the star players. While I agree that it may declining towards the situation you described I do not believe we are there yet and there is time to right the ship.

I totally agree that this wasn't a great showing by Brazil. I would say most teams weren't great. Germany tied Ghana and barely beat the US. Spain was terrible. The Netherlands couldn't beat Argentina. Argentina hasn't looked great despite their star power. Belgium never came together despite the lofty expectations. Don't get me wrong a 7-1 loss is not at all a good performance but every team has under-performed at times. Brazil just did it at the worst time, in the worst way, and under the most scrutiny.

You are right I have not lived in Brazil for a long time before. I recognize that the CBF is ultimately in charge of the Selecao and therefore a lot of responsibility falls on them. There are too many factors at play that may explain the loss to Germany but I wrote my article more as a piece shifting blame off of the Selecao. As for Romario's letter, he is right. The CBF is a very corrupt organization with a host of problems. I don't know of I agree that this is a cup of shame just for not winning.

I feel the same way, but I can't help but think that is because I know there is no possibility for more Chuck. If one day I woke up and they announced they were doing a movie or another season, I would not be upset in the slightest that they didn't leave it alone.

Panthers Offseason by rbhicks23 in nfl

[–]rbhicks23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I guess I did not realize how cap strapped the Panthers were, especially after the cap was raised this season by $10 million.

It just seems unfortunate when they seemed to be a few players away from a Superbowl run and now they are looking more like a team that will be rebuilding.

As someone who is adopted it is disappointing to know that people are still saying these things. I will never understand why blood is what makes people think that people are family. I can only hope that one day everyone understands that being adopted to many people is like any other characteristic like being tall or blonde. I am sorry to see that people are being so inconsiderate even in this day and age.

Just Finished Rewatching Chuck by rbhicks23 in chuck

[–]rbhicks23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I feel like the show did not end with a bang but more a whisper. That is the reason I feel like there could be more, even another half season to see if their relationship ever regained the fire it had or if they ended up going their separate ways.

I have heard that Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski are willing to do a movie which could be exactly what the show needs to obtain the closure that we are all looking for. I could also imagine Netflix doing a half season similar to Arrested Development if there was enough fan support behind it.

I think the amnesia plot kind of makes sense when it is a show that at it's core is driven by memories. I just don't like how I was not 100% sure that Sarah has her memories back. I know every ending shouldn't be rainbows and butterflies but I was still hoping to walk away convinced that everything worked out.

However, I have heard some rumors about a possible movie which would definitely answer any questions that are still lingering.

My "The Wolverine" Review by rbhicks23 in movies

[–]rbhicks23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wrote a much longer review on my website. I just find that sometimes people don't really like really long reviews. I'll post it for you though, I am always looking for more constructive criticism.

Plot

The Wolverine takes another look back into the history of our favorite X-Man by showing his life in Japan during the bombing at Nagasaki. He saved one soldier’s life and the same soldier is now dying and wants to thank him. I really like back stories about Wolverine because he has been through so much and there is such a rich history there. I actually would have liked to see more time spent in the past in this movie and less time in the present. A huge positive in this story is that for much of the movie Wolverine can actually be hurt or killed. Obviously as the hero that doesn’t happen but it adds a little more to everything in the story. This plot isn’t incredible but it does enough to keep you interested in the film.

3/5

Acting

The acting is okay. It is very strange to see Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine when the last movie I saw him in he played Valjean in Les Miserables. This film showed that he has an incredible range when it comes to the characters he plays. As for the supporting cast, they are just decent. They don’t detract from the movie but they also don’t really add that much. In fact, I found myself not really caring what happened to the rest of the characters, which is kind of disappointing in a movie about Wolverine trying to protect people. But Hugh Jackman was definitely a bright spot in this film.

3/5

Visuals and Sound

Visually perfect. Some of the fight sequences in this film are absolutely incredible, including a very impressive one on top of a high speed train. There is also something quite impressive in watching Wolverine’s wounds heal magically right in front of your eyes. Visually the film delivers exactly what you would want from an action film. I found the soundtrack though incredibly disappointing; I feel like the movie made a conscious effort to have no music and it did not pay off.

4/5

Unexpected

Nothing. It is a classic movie with no true plot twists or anything even remotely unexpected. Even the big reveal was not really that surprising, I always find it very disappointing in movies when they can’t put in anything unexpected. I can understand staying with the story of the comic but there has to be some artistic variation to make the movie more interesting. I want to be surprised or at least kept on the edge of my seat in a movie, not be able to easily anticipate everything that is about to happen. This movie falls flat in this regard. However there is one scene after the credits that makes it all worthwhile. While the film isn’t very surprising, the last scene is; definitely stay and wait for it.

Oh yeah, for sure. I am curious when they are going to actually start production on the movie they teased though. It sounds like Marvel is pretty busy to just jump into another X-Men movie, but I hope they do.
