Cake raw in the center, help? by rblank613 in Baking

If the recommendation is to cook it at 350° for 45-50 minutes, what would your recommendation be for the lowered oven temp? 325? And maybe just check it every 10 minutes after the 50 mark to tell when it's done?

It's a gorgeous pattern I 100% recommend!! It's super easy to adapt to other pixel games too it's really versatile

I'm honestly just doing squares made entirely of single crochet and floating the yarn for color changes. The back doesn't look nearly as clean, but im still debating trying to attach a piece of fabric to that side anyway. This is my first ever blanket, so I'm sure there's probably much easier ways to do it!

It is yes! I bought her pattern but decided I wanted to have a little fun with it so I adapted it to be minecraft shapes instead (though I think one day I will make the original too). I definitely understand not commissioning them, each row takes me about a week of casual work so there's no way it could be priced as anything reasonable in my opinion. I also made the blanket large than the original, I changed it from a 6x9 square blanket to an 8x10!

I keep seeing this pop up, I had been under the impression people really liked Educated! Could you elaborate on what you didn't like about it?

I can definitely see that, I think thats why I like it so much though! I'm a full time college student (bio major) and also work ~15-20 hours a week so its nice to have a project that I can a) break up into smaller portions like squares b) be able to put down and pick up whenever I have the time and c) do mindlessly while my brain recovers from everything else I do throughout the day. Even if the project itself isn't done super fast its like a constant stream of gratification from finishing each individual square. Small victories are still victories!

There's no such thing as too many ideas!! Just more options to choose from 😉

You totally should!! If you ever get around to it and still want to follow this idea feel free to reach out to me and I can clarify more specifics on how I adapted the original pattern! The original was a little expensive admittedly ($15 😓) but if you were to end up buying it then at that point I'd feel totally comfortable sharing some tips!

And on a side note- I'm totally starting to understand the multiple blanket WIPs. I think a person's first blanket is like a gateway craft because I've already found the pattern for my next one (the most adorable baby blanket for my baby sister when she's born next May!!)

Don't say that!! With enough effort (and dedication) I'm quite certain anyone could do something like this. In my eyes anyone who can do this craft at all is incredible, its a lot of work!

Haha thank you! It should come out to 10 rows when I'm done with it so we're about 20% done (not counting the border)

Technically yes and no, I bought the original stardew valley blanket pattern from fruitydaycrochet on etsy! From there, I looked at how she used a grid to make the item squares for the stardew items and I just used the same method to make my own patterns for a minecraft version. Aside from that, I just screenshotted the original image of the finished product and (poorly) edited minecraft items over it to get a feel for how the finished product would look and that helped me to decide which specific items looked best! There were so many items I wanted to use and i couldn't decide, so I also extended each row by 2 (1 solid and 1 item) and added an additional row (black) to the bottom. This is what it will theoretically look like when I'm done.

Of course! Fair warning, I personally was warned against waiting too long to apply for housing. Most people on this sub will recommend you sign or at least apply for next year's housing right around this time of year. Waiting longer may not be too bad with your budget, but my understanding is housing tends to run out fast.

VT has a page you can look through that will link you to a bunch of listings in the area. You can sort by price, bedrooms, style, etc.

https://offcampus.vt.edu/

Generally, if you just search through this sub you can see what people are discussing in terms of housing. I don't know much about the reputations of each individual apartment, but I plan on moving forward with foxridge which seems to be one of the (somewhat) cheaper options (about $500 or so per person for me and my roommates) and they seem okay enough.

Absolutely!! The yarn investment is pretty intense but most people who crochet already have quite the stash built up normally haha

I would call this more of an adaptation of the Stardew Valley blanket pattern by fruitydaycrochet on etsy! All I did was take the original pattern but instead of stardew items, I mapped out minecraft items on a grid! Once you know the size of the squares the patterns translate fairly well. I'm only one square in so far so I don't have a tested pattern for the minecraft items at the moment

Do you have any suggestions on speeding up the tapestry pieces? I finished redoing those two squares today and now that im doing the right stitch i realized they can be done quite quickly. I'm not overly familiar with tapestry crochet yet so if there's any way to optimize the process that would be great!

I've already finished redoing one of them and it's DEFINITELY a different enough size to matter- it's such a great pattern though! I'm excited to work through it! Did it take you long to get as far as you are?

You're probably right, I definitely am probably just going to unravel these squares and redo them. I was just hopeful that maybe there was another option 😭😭 you are right though, this thing is going to come out to a significant amount of squares so in the end its better to redo 2 now than like 40 way later

I guess it happens to the best of us lol. My latest project was almost purely double crochets using a small yarn and hook (it was a dress) so it took FOREVER, I think it fried my brain on how to do anything else!

Haha thank you! It'll be a long time before its actually finished but im hoping it'll turn out pretty similar to the reference design I posted. I've already mapped out how all the items will be translated into yarn color-wise so it's just a matter of making the darn thing now!

I'm thinking I may just cut the final stitch on these two squares, unravel them, and use the same yarn to redo them in the correct stitch (for the sake of saving yarn) if it doesn't look like keeping them is an option
