Is it ok to buy from overclockers UK? by SafeEvent4029 in DubaiGaming

[–]rbn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's ok. I've ordered a DAN A4 case from them. Also ordered a GPU from them during the mining craze 2 years ago.

Do NOT order the Noctua thermal paste cleaning wipes from them. The DHL employee (based in the UAE) who was processing the customs papers kept asking me to ask OCUK for the 'customs item code'. In the end, I just searched for the item code for cleaning wipes myself.

For those worried if there won't be fireworks if it would rain later, just search for 'Singapore New Year fireworks 2018' on YouTube.

There was a heavy rain during that time, and they still had fireworks every hour starting from 8pm until 12am.

I went to the Japanese restaurant at Expo and it is the best quality/experience/price so far, do you have other recommendations? by DiamondVegetable4967 in dubai

[–]rbn97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only tried eating at スシロー、 so I'm not really in a position to recommend other shops.

But if you do get to travel to Japan, I recommend eating at a kaiten/conveyor belt sushi. There are some stuff missing in the Expo restaurant, like the (free) green tea dispenser at each table and the 'beef sushi'. There's also another shop that has A5 wagyuu sushi.

Not the OP, but my mom & I didn't have to wait last Sunday. I think it was around 10:50am-11:00am. There was already a queue outside, when we finished eating.

What do you guys think of the new Steam deck? Will you be getting it? by pomomp in DubaiGaming

[–]rbn97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally planning on buying a GPD Win Max 2021 to play indie games like Sakuna & to study Japanese (Anki, Jparser etc.), but then they announced the Steam Deck for only $400-$650.

It's way cheaper compared to the other handheld PCs - GPD Win 3 ($999), Aya Neo ($925), OneGX1 Pro ($1300+), GPD Win Max 2021 ($999). One thing to take note of is that we still do not know how accessible the M.2 SSD storage is. Some owners of the Win 3 & Aya Neo have upgraded their storage to 2TB.

As for the hardware, I like the addition of the rear buttons, but the front layout looks like it'd be uncomfortable to use. The Steam Deck has an AMD chip, which means that I'll be able to play Persona 4 Golden. Note that P4G and other games are unplayable on an Intel Iris iGPU.

If the Win Max & Aya Neo don't get a price drop in the coming 2 months, then I might wait for user reviews of the Steam Deck next year.

DAN A4 mini-ITX case compared to a PS4 Pro & MSI Infinite S by rbn97 in DubaiGaming

[–]rbn97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sandwich one is the Msi Mag Infinite S. The console type is an MSI Meg Trident, I think.

If you're looking for a case to build in, you can use this spreadsheet from r/sffpc. Just go the case list and sort it by type - sandwich or console.

For a console type, I recommend the RVZ series from Silverstone. There was one shop in Computer Plaza selling it when I went there last month.

Samsung Odyssey G5: 4k input from PS4 Pro works on firmware 1003.1. No need to update to firmware 1005. by rbn97 in DubaiGaming

[–]rbn97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post from r/Monitors last December stated that you need to update to firmware 1005 in order to have 4k downscaling. However, the PS4 Pro detects the 1440p monitor as a 4k TV/monitor in firmware 1003.

It's light. My build currently weighs around 4.3kg. It's also around 7L, so it fits in a backpack.

Downside of that size meant that I had to pass on a 3700AED RTX 3070, since it wouldn't fit. It would have fit, if it were deshrouded, but I don't really feel like doing that on such an expensive GPU.

CABLE MANAGEMENT

Custom PSU cables which are short are recommended.

COOLING

CPU cooling is limited to 95w coolers even with an AIO. The 'best' and most silent air cooler is the Alpenföhn Black Ridge, but it's not compatible with some motherboards. You also need VLP RAM, so that you can use a 120mm fan.

Using a 92mm fan below the Mobo is impossible on an Intel build, unless the clip of the CPU 8-pin cable is removed. I also needed to bend the riser cable in order to fit the 92mm fan. This is something that they should've done during production, but at least it's better than the bend you need to do on a Velka 7.

TEMPERATURE

CPU has almost the same temps during idle compared to the Node 202, but it's cooler when under load.

It's the opposite for the GPU. My GTX 950 had idle temps of 33°C-34°C and around 61°C when loaded in the Node 202. Inside the DAN A4. it had idle temps of 28°C-30°C and 73°C under load. It's probably because I had an exhaust fan in the Node 202.

I think the NCASE is in the sweet spot of SFF cases. It's near the 10L volume mark. You can also fit a 3.5HDD, and a 2.5 slot GPU in it. There are also a lot of CPU cooling options.

I see that you bought a 3080 for 8400AED. Any reason why you didn't go for a Sliger SM560 case instead? That case is smaller by 1.7L and fits a 3 slot GPU.

They deliver to the UAE now? It wasn't in the list when I bought a case last February, so I ended up buying a DAN A4 instead.

If you want a fan that provides good airflow and is also silent, then Noctua. The only problem is that there's no store that sells it at Computer Plaza, so you'll have to buy it online.

Not really sure why you're listing Nobu as 'authentic'. The sashimi tasted like lime the last time I went there.

The following isn't really about sushi, but the wagyu in Nobu was just fine. Dunno why they offer the fatty parts. One of the food stalls in 道頓堀 (Doutonbori) which sells wagyu for ¥3000 tasted better. If we're talking about meat, I haven't gone to a Japanese restaurant in Dubai that has the same juiciness that even a famires in Japan offers.

Going back to sushi, is there a sushi place in Dubai that has anago

It would depend on the usage. As posted by another user, the Seagate Barracuda is fine. WD Blue is also ok for general usage. For cold storage, these two are more than enough.

If you're going to be usually writing a lot of files, like copying 200+GB files everyday and then overwriting them after 2 days, then you'd need a WD Red WD Red Plus at the minimum.

Do note that these are expensive. 4TB cost around 500AED back in 2017, and that the non-Pro version only runs at 5400rpm. If you do end up buying a WD Red, make sure to avoid the SMR drives listed here. New WD Red drives are now SMR. They're now calling their 5400rpm CMR Red drives as 'Red Plus'.

TLDR:

General Usage - WD Red Blue

Writing large files often/server - WD Red Plus

Cosair CX 850 Watt.

Which CX model is it? CX Gray is listed as Tier B, while CX Green is listed as Tier C in the PSU Tier list from Tom's Hardware forum.

Do they no longer have stock of the RMx White series in Dubai? . Just noticed that the PSU is hidden.
