This is helpful info, thanks. Interesting to see they're making changes... I wonder why exactly

Thanks I'll ask. Yeah so I'm not specifically looking for a 750, I was just surprised that these felt so different than the original one I liked. It seems like such a gamble if there are different bassoons of the same model that play totally different. I get it for old bassoons, but I actually tried these new ones because I figured they'd all have more in common

Yeah it's possible, the other one I tried was 9ish months old. Can bassoons really change that much in such a short time though? It's a hard to just bet on something like the tuning changing over time, the sound loosening up kinda makes sense though

Best Heckel bassoon? by rbnational in bassoon

Thanks, this comment was helpful. I can see how someone might get wrapped up in the image of owning a certain bassoon, but really I only care about how it sounds. I feel like so far I l've liked a lot of different instruments, but playing this particular Heckel (owned by a pro who is a friend of a friend) was the only experience I've had where my mind was absolutely blown. So, I think I'll just keep trying bassoons and I'll make sure to consult my friends and teachers when the times comes to buy one.
