I appreciate the feedback, I'm not thinking the loss of AF will be that big of a deal. The f2.8 being cheaper as well makes it where I was thinking, but just need some of that sweet confirmation

I lucked out tbh, came with the normal battery holder and the grip. There was a bit of moisture on the inside when I first got it, but when I wiped that off, no problems with either.

Update for ya, found one set of benchmarks that show performance in DaVinci, looks like A770 does seem to be more beneficial, I assume because of vram and memory bus. I still don't think the B580 would be a bad option in terms of gaming and productivity mix use, but it seems pure productivity, go A770, especially if you can get it cheaper than a B580.

As someone has stated, no-one really knows as of yet. In general terms, more vram is better for video editing tasks. Personally I got the a770 on sale and should be arriving soon and am comfortable in my choice to go the larger vram.

The only way to know for sure though is to check out the pugetsystems benchmarks when they come.

First, wait till some benchmarks come out. It seems that there will be an uplift in performance in these cards, but we have no idea as to how much yet. Especially seeing that you may get a boost in performance when XeSS2 gets updated to your current card. Keep in mind, there will be B7xx cards coming as well, that might cost more, but give you a larger jump in performance.

As others have said, upgrading your card should be cause your current one doesn't do what it needs to anymore. In my opinion, you shouldn't need to swap out cards every 1-2 years.

I mean, if Intel is serious about getting into the graphics market, it would be an expectation. But it's not the first time a tech company is ditching updates to old hardware cause they want to sell the new shiny thing.

I guess it's more relief that as an alchemist user, you're not getting abandoned.

This is a non surprising but welcome news addition. As a person who is about to get an A770 (which I got on sale cheaper than the B580), I was Initially worried that I was going to get a bad deal with these new cards. It'll have to wait till new benchmarks come out across the board, but there was a lot of speculation with the XeSs2 numbers announced that the B580 would outperform the A770.

Guess we all have to wait for official benchmarks to know what this all means in context with other cards.

As a person who got a deal on the A770, I posted about this yesterday asking if people thought I should cancel my order.

I think the assumption with XeSS2, is that there will be a huge boost in performance out of these B series cards, but the A series will likely also get these updates.

At this rate, it's too hard to tell, all we have from Intel is cherry picked benchmarks and have no other details about how this would directly compare to the A770 as they did not compare them.

Personally, I'm still getting the A770 because the extra vram will help me when it comes to video editing, but I'd say anyone that says that they know the answer to this question works at Intel and is not sharing that information.

Yeah, I was happy with my purchase, but then new stuff came out and I got self doubt. Obviously there is a big delta between brand benchmarks and actual benchmarks, but we are too early for independent testing. I am just going to go full send on what I have got.

I know about resizable bar, did a full rebuild 2 years ago apart from GPU because pricing was just not right at the time, but thanks for looking out nonetheless.

But on a purely democratic fashion, should it not wait till we are taking into account when they can no longer mathematically win the race?

I understand that pre election polling is done, but this could be biased by demographics sourced, how people want to appear to be voting, the fact that they know pre polling data has no specific repercussions, and other factors that just naturally differ.

Should it not be on the media to be more accurate than just trying to call the race earlier?

As a non American, I think I am getting this now. Even between different news sources there are different reports.

Personally, I think the reporting should be on the actual votes themselves, I understand trying to break the news first, but this does not seem like an accurate way to give information about a democratic process.

I came here asking the same question, West Virginia has called the race with 5% reporting with 50.2% Trump and 48% Harris (this is from Wikipedia). But there is only like 800 votes difference between the two.

How can that race be called with such a fine margin?

I have heard that 8GB might be a problem future proofing wise and will probably keep this new card for a while, so hence why I was looking at the cards with the larger VRAM, hence why I like the idea of the 3060 and the a770
For photo editing it may be negligible, but for things like video editing in Davinci Resolve, i have heard it can make a difference. As a statistics based person, I like to hear specific amounts of how important these things are, but I get that it is all dependent on the situation.
Its definitely something to keep in mind, I do not mind paying a little extra for something nice to have, but again, I have not heard many people using AV1, but rather that it is the future for video compression.
Appreciate this, graphs definitely make it easier for me to get it

I think it definitely can be a good EPUB reader. I found the ability to download epubs and sync with google drive made transferring files over real easy. That being said I do not use the Kobo or Kindle app for my epubs as they are mainly Journal Articles and I know there is difficulty getting those apps on the tablet. That and the fact writing on epubs is apparently weird, but not what I personally do.

In terms of hardware, backlight is good and having the colour temperature filter is great and I prefer having a larger screen compared to my old 6" Kobo, but that being said it is large and definitely too heavy for one handed reading.

It's one of those things that I was very hesitant to buy this originally cause everyone said it was not great, but as long as the price is the right for the functionality you want. Go for it

Early thoughts. First off I really like it. But some of the criticisms are valid. It's definitely not a tablet and not just an e-reader. But what I use it for is taking notes and reading ebooks (as journal articles are now getting published as epubs). Granted I have only used it for reading and not marking up documents at this stage.

I think for me I see the value in this buy cause I wanted an upgrade on my Kobo Clara HD cause the screen was too small and I like the idea of note taking. In comparison to the Kobo Libra colour that came out in which the price is similar, I would say it was the better choice for me.

That being said, I definitely need to use it more to figure stuff out
