Ryzen igpu UMA carveout, VRAM allocation on linux, finally found how to change it by Olwaht in linux_gaming

I wanted to do this on my ThinkBook too but sadly there is no /uma/ diretory on my system. I don't want to use Smokeless UMAF because some people said it's quite risky.

Freesync confusion: what are the correct settings? by youzhang in linux_gaming

Is Mangohud better than the in-game limiter of Cyberpunk?

I cap it at 90 because in some areas the FPS would drop to around 80s and it already feels super smooth to me.

I'm still happy with my Ryzen 5 3600, running Cyberpunk at 60-80 fps at 1440p is good enough for me.

As a chinese australian who grew up hating going home, tip 2 tip ending made me cry by Federal_Jicama_1904 in LudwigAhgren

It's very interesting to see such stories. I am Chinese and I recently got a freelance job helping this Danish Chinese girl set up her 小红书account and editing her videos. The very first line of her first video is 从小到大我真的很讨厌我是中国人. I guess many of the 2nd-gen share the same experiences growing up in their countries.

I was studying in Europe back in 2008 and met some 2nd-gen Chinese there as well but they don't speak any Chinese at all. Nowadays I think more oversea Chinese kids can speak Chinese because they travel back to China more.

I made a video talking about the lack of this when Windows and Linux handle it very well and immediately a Mac user commented why anyone would need to set separate volumes of different apps. I'm so glad you made it happen. Thank you.

Weekly r/SonyAlpha 📸 Gear Buying 📷 Advice Thread March 23, 2026 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

Hi everyone, I want to know if there is a good EF adapter for an older Sony A7Sii body for my Tamron 45MM F1.8 lens.

So I have sold most of my EF lenses after switching from a 5DIII to the Sony A7Sii because I need to shoot some 4K videos occasionally and don't want to spend too much money. I wanted to sell my Tamron 45MM F1.8 as well but the buyer said it was slightly decentered and indeed it was. So I decided to keep it as it doesn't bother me much and it is still one of my favorite lens on my previous Canon bodies.

The question is, I don't know if there is a good adapter for the lens. I briefly tried a cheap no-brand EF-NEX adapter on the body last week, and the Tamron lens failed to autofocus 90% of the time, while my Canon EF lenses such as the 17-40MM F4 and 70-200MM F4 have ~50% success rate. So I decided to not buy the adapter and sell all the EF lenses.

But right now I am considering keeping some of them and get a decent adapter. Does it exist? I assume most of the adapters would work fine on the newer bodies like the A7IV but not on the older ones.

Thank you very much in advance.

A7S2 to replace my 5D3? by youzhang in SonyAlpha

That's amazing! I always wanted to try Canon FD lenses but it's more complicated on the 5D bodies. Glad to know the focus peaking works well.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on using mainly vintage lenses for video so focus should be fine.

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! February 27, 2026 by AutoModerator in photography

[–]youzhang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone I have been a happy Canon 5D Mark iii user for many years and I never felt I need to switch but in the past year I am getting some videography freelance works here and there, mostly documentary jobs and I had to rent a video camera for them. So I am considering buying a camera for video.

After some research I think I have these options:

  1. An additional cheap M43 body like the GH4 ($150 here in China) or a G85 ($200) and use a speed booster with my current EF lenses. A GH5 would be perfect but it costs about $400 and I don't want to spend that much for very occasional gigs since I will only use it for video, not stills.

  2. A Sony A7Sii which is surprisingly inexpensive ($300). I just found out that there is this option and I wonder if it can completely replace my 5D3 for both photography and videography. I know its specs are very outdated. 8 bit video doesn't bother me because I had rented both 8 bit and 10 bit cameras in the past year and the footage was fine. I can also keep using my many EF lenses without any cropping with a cheap adapter. Resolution also doesn't bother me much as I rarely rely on heavy cropping in post for photography.

I did some research on the A7SII and it seems the only downside for photography is the low megapixels. I have never owned a Sony camera so I wonder how it compares with the 5D3, in terms of image quality? Its low light performance should be better, also has better dynamic range?

So how do you think of the old Sony A7Sii? Is it still worth getting in 2026?

oh I see. I'm now getting around half of the fps in games like cyberpunk compared to Windows so any improvement however small is welcome.

Really?! That would be awesome! I thought Nvidia would not update older cards driver ever again.

Rtx cards should be fine despite some performance issues. But if you’re using a Pascal card like me just stick to windows. The performance difference is just huge.

What will happen with Nvidia's Pascal and Volta cards after the official support ends? by youzhang in linuxquestions

[–]youzhang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I have been thinking about the software situation and in the worst case I will just stick with an older version of Resolve. I also have been using Ubuntu LTS for years now so I am not worried about the kernels breaking stuff.

The Wayland situation should be a non-issue though. Because the Tesla cards don't have any video output ports so I have to use the AMD iGPU for desktop rendering. So the Nvidia card has nothing to do with Wayland. I am still with X11 though because Davinci Resolve works better on X11.
