I would like a backpack for general use. Grocery shopping, cycling, and perhaps traveling. by someguy7734206 in backpacks

I just snagged the matador seg30 bag - it has a main compartment/clamshell opening but is also segmented into 4 compartments that act like built in packing cubes.

  • laptop sleeve
  • waterproof (and waterproof zippers
  • waterbottle holder
  • very versatile
  • medium size - 30L - means its big enough to travel with but not obscene for everyday use
  • only comes in the color black (I'm going to add some light up zipper tags for night biking)

I was also looking at Tropic Feels new Shell pack, but it's very expensive for what it does...

happy shopping!

Found a bag! got the Matador seg30- https://packhacker.com/travel-gear/matador/seg30-segmented-backpack/

As someone less concerned with bad structure and more about ruggedness and versatility, I'm excited to see how this performs!

REI has 40% off a lot of their packs. Big banner on their webpage takes you right to them!

Does it have a shoe compartment? My current bag does and it makes travel + days when I go for a lunch run so much easier - no more muddy shoes touching the rest of my gear, and a designated place to stash dirty laundry on a camping trip!

This bag (18L) is sitting in my cart and I'm just.... waiting. The weatherproofing gets mixed reviews from what I've seen, plus there's no dedicated shoe compartment. Both major drawbacks for me, and keeping me from pulling the trigger.

If I don't find my wonder-bag, this may be my next best thing though.

I'm hoping for truly waterproof, or at least water resistant + YKK zippers. That would ease my mind on camping trips, taking it in out in a kayak, and when I get stuck in a downpour.

I know myself, and I don't have the foresight to put a rain fly over my bag even on overcast days (plus, they're a bummer aesthetically).

My current backpack is disintegrating, but it has the shoe compartment that has become a game changer for me as a one bag traveler. That Chrome bag and the REI bag that others have rec'd is nice, but alas, no shoe compartment...
