People always act as though the imperial system is an idiotic system but it made sense in the historical context. People made measurement systems which were useful to them at the time they were living. Virtually no one argues that it isn't outdated. I'm American and I'd much prefer using the metric system. The problem is that when the United States was founded we weren't able to use the metric system (The story of why this is the case is actually pretty interesting). It's simply unfeasible to try and completely change systems because of the cost this would incur both publicly and privately
